but they have probably the worst arena in the SEC in Tad Smith, why on earth would they build a practice facility nicer than the facility they actually play in? I would think recruits would be more impressed with a new plush arena, not to mention the money it produces, but thats just me.

...I'd be more concerned about where I was going to spend a couple of hundred days a year, vs the place I was going to spend about 30 or 40.

...oh, and I just called the AD and asked if we could pass the hat to collect funds for the roof of our facility.

Yea, the green initiatives are important. Without a roof, there will be no need for heating or AC. Therefore, the building will use basically no energy other than lighting. And I wouldn't worry about rain either. There is already a school in the state that practices in the rain. You just have to have your trainers mop the floor every 5 minutes.

I think that's why there has been such a strong push for these practice facilities. Our arena looks like crap and is crap, but the practice facility will likely be more important to recruits since that's where they'll work out and hang out the most.

As much as I want us to do something about our arena, I think the practice facility needs to come first.

giving thanks that AK took Khayat's offer in the hotel in Cincinnati. That offer might not have looked so good in the friendly confines of the Pad.

Heck no. Kennedy even said that himself. He said that he took the offer without even taking a look at the facilities. He said in hindsight that might have been a bad idea. I'm just hoping he sticks around long enough to see us finish the BPF and then to help push us into either building a new arena or doing a drastic overhaul of the current one.

to get much more than the PF out of him. Success is the proverbial 2 edge sword.

I know he's got very high expectations for next year. Y'all could lose him as soon as the end of next season. Of course, you know that already.

I doubt it. I think it'll be after the 2009-2010 season. For one thing, I don't think he'll have the type of success this season that will interest that many teams. I think we'll likely be a bubble team again for the 3rd year in a row. We may sneak in the tourney, but we'll be right on that edge between the NIT and NCAA tourney. For the 2009-2010 season though he'll basically be returning his entire team, and I think we'll be pretty good that year. That will likely be the season that draws the most attention to him. So I'm saying he'll make it through a full 4 years, and he'll see the practice facility officially opened.

However, I hope when he leaves he essentially pushes our athletic department into stepping up to do something about the basketball arena. That's what Tubby did for our football program. He asked for a stadium expansion and an IPF, saying he couldn't win without them. We wouldn't give them to him. Then he left, which proved to us that he was right, and so we stepped up to the plate and invested in both. I'm hoping that Kennedy at least does that for us. He's already getting us the BPF. I just hope he pushes us into the arena rennovation/demolition when he leaves.

Much better looking than the double wide we're adding to the back of the PMAC.

No way that a Metal building roughly 100x750 will cost 12 million. That's about $340 a square foot. 170 a foot (6 mil) makes more sense. 2 wood courts and bleachers will cost some $, but nothing else shown screams money.

it saves a lot of energy. If it rains they won't need to run the showers either, and it will wash the courts off. Win/win

I think the no roof is a great idea. It worked for the cowboys. Now God can not only watch Jerry's boys play but also watch the art that is Rick Stansbury's fundemental coaching style.
