Chef Ty needs some english composition and spelling assistance.

And, I'm curious whether anyone else finds themselves recoiling somewhat at all of this eco-friendly ******** that seems to be coming from all directions. Hey, Chef Ty, I don't give a damn that your gorgonzola allegedly comes from free range cows or that your vinaigrette is made from organic olives harvested by unionized spanish separatists. All of this "organic" ******** is just one 60 Minutes investigation away from being exposed as the fraud that it is.

the thing is Shmuley that there are plenty of customers out there that do care about that crap. and the thing is those customers are willing to pay a premium for those ingredients. so i can't blame him for going that direction. it's just marketing.

local is not a ******** fraud.

It's the only long term sustainable way for a healthy society to function. Doing it the other way is what's led to things like $4 a gallon gas and tomatoes that kill people.

And to make this sports related, they sell Mississippi boiled peanuts at Ole Miss home games and the spicy ones are fantastic.

Organic is not just a scam or some fad. The truth is, that's the way all of our food was grown prior to WWII. Keep eating all that GM frankenfood if you want to. I'm sticking to home grown, and locally grown organic.

I have to say... knowing that little bastard in high school, I never would've dreamed that he'd a free man this far down the road. Good for him... I figured he'd have much larger issues these days than an less-than-stellar bio.</p>

I have no problem with you or anyone that wants to eat organic but you might want to look into what is defined as organic or what goes into organic farming before you think you are eating something healthier.

about buying local when given the option. I'm growing a garden. I try and buy local meat. I buy local cheese. Fair trade coffee.

It makes sense. And it's not Marxist doctrine to support local biz.

There are all sorts of "exceptions" as I obviously am not growing my own grain for the kids PB&J's. I try and conserve water, but I don't let my urine mellow in the bowl.

Not everything in life is all or nothing. But, working towards sustainable local economy is nothing to be scoffed at.

I said nothing about "local." What I said was ******** is this "organic" fad. What a complete load of organic cattle waste.

You are going to have a really hard time convincing me that I am better off buying tomatoes covered in pesticides or from Mexico rather than organic ones and/or tomatoes grown by a local farmer.

You can keep buying all the toxins you want and send all your money outside of your community if that's how you like to do things, but my money is on higher quality, healthier, community supported agriculture.

... and I'll eat them at my tailgate (to make it sports related).

your local farmer's market is "organic" exactly how? Because the seller has a sign that says so? And he's wearing birkenstocks? What do you do, take around testing apparatus with you to check for pesticides?

Maybe I just need to hook up with some Mexicans and start selling "organic" produce.

I just don't fall for the organic ********.

Hell, I WANT my tomato sprayed with fungicide and insecticide. I'll wash the damn thing when I get home.

On a related note, I avoid imported seafood whenever possible. I guess this makes me a crazy, unwashed hippie, too. And didn't we already have this argument in the Wal Mart thread?
I also suggest that most people should read this:

It goes into (among other things like how corn is in damn near everything) the whole organic vs. local argument.

Food safety was a big issue back then for mass production but you also had many more people that were self sufficient. Trying to compare now and pre WWII is off base.

My point is that organic farming is the way we used to do it. It isn't some new-fangled idea the hippies came up with. Ignorant people hear 'organic' and have no idea what it really is. What I don't understand is why you are so against it. Are you growing the Roundup Ready varieties?

I had one experience at the Abby. The service there was absolutely horrible. I thought the place had a nice shot at being a great place to dine before I actually visited there.

Starkville really lacks a great place to eat. I don't have anything against the Veranda. He gets points for a fairly creative (for starkville) menu. But, I can't eat there all the time. Well, I guess I could, but it gets kind of old.

Count me as one of the uneducated ones. I understand you to be a farmer, right? Well, it just so happens I am starting a super diet today, and was going to load up on organic stuff for the essentials. So, give me a little education if you will. All I really know is the fad stuff that everybody says, like no steroids and pesticides, etc. Give me some truth my good man.

have a good place to dine b/c no one will spend the kind of money required to sustain such a restaurant on a night in, night out basis.

The only organic product I consume is milk. Healthier or not? I don't know and I don't really care. All I know is that it tastes better and, to me, it's worth the extra $ to get it. So when I tell somebody else I drink organic milk or I try to suggest they try it, half the time I get "ughhhh" or "gross" or something like that. They think it's some kind of soybean crap or something.... Not that there's anything wrong with that.
