Let me expound a little. Organic and local foods are two different concepts that sometimes overlap. I like to buy organic, local, and local and organic whenever possible. I'm not disillusioned into thinking that organic farmers don't use chemicals, or that they all are on the up and up, but I do think that making the effort and supporting demand is worth a small premium.

I also think that buying from local farmers whenever possible is the best choice, organic or not. If the food is local, and claims to be organic, all the better. The quality of local food is far superior to supermarket crap.

On washing food, yeah you should wash your food, but don't think that is getting rid of all the chemicals. That crap seeps in through the skins and food supply of the plant. Even food that really has been grown organically contains pesticides from the soil and air.

I'm not saying that you should eat any of it, I'm just saying you are better off without it.

... especially at your tailgate.

One big problem is that the university so overwhelms the town, that there isn't a large population of affluent people (at least as large as would normally be expected in such a populated area.) The town makes its living off the students. And even the nicest places in town still need the students to make it.

And while I am at it. We have what I consider to be a decent wine selection in a liquor store in Starkville. But, don't order any in a restaurant. Gee whiz.

Now, if Starkville continues to grow as a retirement destination, that might change.

I like Doe's. I try to eat at Doe's every time I am in Starkville.

Also, my son said the new place, which is replacing the Abbey, is very good. He also said the new place was very reasonable.

I dont care what you eat but the world isnt going to be fed on organic food.

Ignorant people hear 'organic' and have no idea what it really is. What I don't understand is why you are so against it.
I literally just laughed out loud. Ignorant people also think that "organic" means that it is some how healthier and doesnt have pesticides on it and is somehow safer. "The organic label is a marketing tool. It is not a statement about food safety." ---- former Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman

In terms of weight loss and calorie watching, organic vs non-organic doesn't matter. Fruits and veges are fruits and veges when it comes down to calories. Stay away from refined sugars that are found in stuff like white breads, cokes, sports and energy drinks, or anything sugary. It's the best start. </p>

You can't avoid it nowadays. There are chemicals in your tap water. If you drink something out of a plastic bottle or aluminum can, you've just taken in chemicals. The chicken you eat was injected with steroids. The fruits and vegies you eat have chemicals on them. Chemicals are in just about everything. I'm not saying that attempting to avoid some of these chemicals is wrong, but one must realize in our current society that it is impossible.
