This is the problem...there's only 4 spots available. Did Florida State deserve to make the playoff? Yes, absolutely. They were a 13-0 Power 5 conference champion with wins over solid opponents like LSU and Clemson. Did they deserve to get in over Alabama or Texas, despite both of those teams having a loss? No. Definitely not.

FSU just got really unlucky that this year; finally, every Power 5 conference champion was playoff-worthy. Someone was going to draw the short straw and get screwed.
People continue to leave out a top 15 ranked Louisville based solely off name.

So does strength of record and FSU’s was 3rd. I would bet my house that if the roll was reversed bama would not have been left out.
I just posted this on another thread, but I will post it here too.

What part of the set criteria did they get wrong or did not follow?

Was it part 1, Conference champs? Well, they are both conference champs so that part is a wash.

Was it part 2, SOS? Well, Alabama had the number 5 ranked SOS and FSU had the number 55. So you got to give that one to Alabama.

Was it head-to-head? Well, seeing they did not play each other this season, this part is a wash.

Was it comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory? They had one common opponent and they both boat-raced them.

Was it other relevant factors such as the unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team's performance during the season or likely its postseason performance? Well, seeing that FSU's starting QB who was the heart and soul of that offense broke his leg, you would have to say that that one is a negative strike on FSU.

So based on the criteria that are supposed to be used, Alabama should and did get the nod. If it had come down to Texas and Alabama for the 4th spot, Texas should have gotten the nod based on the head-to-head.

I 100% get not agreeing with the set criteria, but that is a completely different debate than this. The goal of the committee has never been to pick the most deserving teams, it has always been to select the best 4 teams using a set criteria, and they absolutely did that correctly based on that set criteria.

Unknown and unknowable. What is known is that Bama beat a team on Saturday that was both ranked #1 and was undefeated, and that this was done on Selection Eve, and that their team from that victory is intact. All of those things weigh heavily in their favor.

Louisville sucked lol. Did you watch the ACC championship and their game against Kentucky? That was a team that got really lucky with their schedule and made the most of it.

Hate to tell you but they were ranked in the top 15 in that matchup. That’s the opposite of suck. Your biased is showing. I guess Alabama sucks to because they need a last second miracle to beat a team that got man handled by NEW MEXICO STATE.

Yet you still get worked up over a differing opinion on a little ol' message board little queenie.
"Worked up" describes a level of investment I rarely experience, and never with the likes of you. You have hereby qualified for a truly inglorious list. Goodbye.

You play the schedule you're dealt(these things are set up years in advance) perhaps you'll learn to comprehend that in the future, we'll see.
and if your "hand" is 55th best in the nation....then you didn't play a tough enough schedule to make an argument. Hypothetically....if they had played the 35th toughest schedule....they might easily have 2 losses. The crown jewel win of their schedule was against a 3-loss LSU team.
Don't fret though....if they are a top 4 team they get a chance to prove it in the bowl game vs. an actual top 4 team who got screwed and should be in the playoffs (Georgia).

Florida State total yards against power five teams without Jordan Travis.

Florida 224 yards
Louisville 219 yards

Kentucky scored 38 points against Louisville and 33 points against Florida.

Florida State would have the same chance to win in the college playoffs like Cincinnati did a few years ago which is none.
YES! If you watched the ACC "title" game....then you know it was the most embarrassing "championship" game I've ever seen. The committee watched it. FSU slit their own throat.

Remember the ACC commissioner wanted the four team playoff. Be careful what you wish for.

But they have said from the start the goal is to have the four best teams, not the four most deserving.

If you go by the criteria they have, they made the right call. You might disagree with the criteria, but that is a different debate.

Otherwise comparable teams….undefeated>one loss. Who is better Auburn or Alabama. Now you THINK Bama is better than all three teams in the playoff. GAMEDAY>GAME. The greatest example of disrepect is when you earn something and someone takes it from you. Those that made the decision should not now exit the spotlight. Meet with FSU in person and tell them your decision live on ESPN. I dont watch the NFL but they GOT IT RIGHT!

This discussion has come to resemble the ham that's been in the fridge too long and has taken on that green sliminess which heralds rancidness.

The way the NFL does it is not something that is realistic in FBS football.

They have taken teams with one game less in the W/L record in the past and said then that if two teams are within 1 game, it is considered a similar record and they move to the next part of the criteria.
