Basketball players do opt out
edit ... totally misunderstood your post thinking it was about leaving with eligibility remaining.

Maybe it is due to less risk of injury in hoops

No, you actually need game tape. Twelve + games is a lot of tape.
Got it. Bryce Young’s Heisman wasn’t enough so he needed more tape.

Also after opting out…no driving in a car, no lifting weights, no flying on airplanes and so on.

Guys, you’re real argument is “GO SCHOOL SPIRIT”. The fact that you still believe in that is super cute. The fact you believe the players (the good ones) still believe in that is a bit naive and equally cute. #gostatebeatbluehens

Nope not at all. It's all business. Fulfill your scholly commitment I'm good. Don't and pay it back for the year.

Allow? I might advise against it but he's an adult and will be the one living with the consequences - it should be his decision.
My opinion of what makes an adult must be different than yours. Neither 1 nor 2 had a monthly bill mailed to his residence with his name on it. They became adults when they wrote that first utility bill check.

Is the scholarship a written contract that spells out required games played and a fee system to pay back? What about sick days etc

It's a new day...for the players and for the schools. Everything is up for negotiation now. If a player quits during the 1st minute of the 1st practice should they stay on scholarship?

But yes it is.

Ugh....all the bickering about whether a player should or shouldn't play is nauseating....College Football just like most every sport has morphed into Semi Pro ball....just like AA basketball....what once was is no more....everything now is about $$$

Micah Parsons didn’t need that.

Oh come on, if covid wackiness doesn't happen do you really think sitting out wouldn't have hurt him? The Steelers were openly stating they were taking guys off their draft board if they didn't play.

Cool. I'm down with them sitting out the final game. Just pay back the scholarship for that year...yo. On scholy to play the season not pick and choose.
Yeah, that will go over really well. Be the school that starts that trend and see how well it works. LOL
