A while back I spoke badly about Roger Wicker because of a recent vote. As a result I was blasted by various SixPackers. He has just voted along with the Democratic party in support of the $1.7 trillion giveaway. Again I will vote against him. Feel free to blast away again.

Just want to note that the bill includes substantial money $6mm for the Grant Presidential Library at MSU. What an honor that our university hosts this library.

Also, it’s totally fine if you want to vote for someone else and tell everyone about it.

The only fix for our broken political system is term limits on over single elected official. From president down to town alderman to senators and representatives and every one in between. You get two terms and then get back in the real world with a real job. Unfortunately I doubt there will ever be enough of a revolution for enough politicians to vote themselves out of a cush guvment paycheck.

It would help if there was a 3rd party that was viable enough to threaten take the majority in one or both camerals. It seems that the brand obssesed Americans are a long way from making that a reality. We love to assign blame but the truth is more likely that the constituency is less intelligent than the folks they put in office.

Yep. At some point these politicians need to come out of Washington and live in the real world with the policies they have created. Ban super PACs as well.

Here's the problem. If they waited until next year when Republicans control the House, and just kicked it down the road, the House would force a government shut down. Say it's over spending, boarder isdues, etc. Then 6 weeks later after caving in and getting nothing you wanted, you look ridiculous, Democrats say this is the right wing holding the country hostage and life goes on. The system is fatally broken and will never go back. It will become more Socialist then one dominant party rule. Our Republic is in its death throes because it's too easy to use other people's money to stay in power.

If you have term limits, PACs become irrelevant. Politicians would then vote without concern of getting re-elected

The problem is the people. How many people do you think are actually educated on the issues when they go to vote? If it's 1/3 I would be shocked.

As a society, we are collectively intellectually lazy. We can tell everything going on with the Kardashians but can't tell you what's going on in our own backyards. We have gotten the very thing we've voted for and quite frankly deserve.

Few things I've wanted to say on this topic but can't on social media for "reasons". First off all congressman are all garbage.

When our legislature was formed each house representative represented 33,000 people. The number of representatives hasn't changed since Alaska and Hawaii were added. As a result, over the last century, congressional districts have more than tripled in size—from an average of roughly 212,000 inhabitants after the 1910 Census to about 710,000 inhabitants following the 2010 Census. We do not have the same representation we'd did 100 or 200 years ago and that's a major issue.

I hate bigger government but one place I could accept it if adding more reps meant getting closer to 33,000 than 710,000.

With 1000 representatives there's a much better chance your voice would be heard. We'd be at 10,000 reps if the house was tied to number represented. If we could eliminate 5 bureaucrats for every newly elected spot that would be a great start.

I'm not sure how to "fix" the senate since it's never been tied to population.

Term limits are also a must if we hope to continue as a super power. This is probably the best we can do to fix senate. Probably the best solution for the whole of congress.

No more PACs. I'd rather have federally funded election campaigns than what we have since citizen's United. The people lost their voice when this decision came down (not that the elite weren't in charge before but it definitely got worse).

Blind trusts for all federally elected people. Take away their cash cow and less greedy people will apply. They may come into congress with great morals but it doesn't take long for the money to shine through. No one leaves congress less off than they entered. Serving your country should mean some sort of sacrifice. It's definitely a sacrifice for te real heroes, the soldiers.

20% are wealthy enough to not want to rock the boat (or are steering the boat)
20% are happy enough to be on the boat (ie on the govt dole)

Of the 60% remaining (the center)
20% refuse to do anything the right wants because the media told them the left is evil.
20% refuse to do anything the left wants because the media told them the right is evil.

20% might save the country but I doubt it.

I live in another country but I still love (and pay taxes in) the USA. 50% of my neighbors would literally, LITERALLY, sell me their children for an opportunity to live in the US.

I've had mothers offering to let me adopt their children for enough money to pay coyotes, most just leave them with aunts or grandmothers. But that leaves the coyote fee, then they are essentially indentured (generally sex) servants. To them it's worth it.

One offered me their house for $3500 (coyote fee) but made me promise to take care of their dad who lived there and wasn't healthy enough to travel.

My point with saying that is that the majority of the people in countries around the world would literally give up everything to move to the USA.

If that many people want to come to the US, how bad is the rest of the world? From my experience, it's freaking terrible for all but the top 20%.

The US is super blessed but hanging on to that is something I'm not sure we have the stomach for. We can't be the savior for everyone.

I want to move back to the US when it's time for me to retire but as the years go on I'm more and more likely to just stay put and deal with my 3rd world government. Here, I can be a top 25% (take out the drug dealers and I'm probably top 10%) but in the US I'm considered just above poverty but that's a different story.

No free nation/government, etc... has ever remained intact for more than 300 years. Neither will we. It's over. Don't know what the USA will become, but somewhere between solid socialist and communist state is about right.
