Well speaking as a farmer it would be fantastic to have someone from MIssissippi as Sec of Ag. That’s huge for southern ag.Would hope that Trump would pick someone other than a lifelong Bureaucrat, but Keenum has experience at wasting large sums of money.
I totally agree. Just kind of seems like a placeholder. What’s ironic is that a lot of people speculated that Keenum would get the senate appointment that ultimately went to CHS…….and probably would have until certain business execs got involvedDon't know much about CHS, she seems like she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer?
If Harris were to win Vilsack would probably continue to be Sec of Ag.Or maybe this is a head-fake, and he is being considered for Ag Sec in the forthcoming Harris Administration. She has made it a priority to include at least one republican.
Sounds like a win-win to me.
Cindy Hyde SmithWho’s CHS?
and there's your problem in Washington in a nutshell. The guy around here is not liked, fans at other schools outside of here don't know him, yet because of pedigree and favors he is sought afterPeople in Washington not only can name them, they pay hefty salaries to employ them.
Certainly a possibility but he's 73, those are grueling jobs, he's now done it 12 years, and she's going to have her own personnel priorities. If Harris were to win Vilsack would probably continue to be Sec of Ag.
Is CHS Cindy Hyde Smith? I’m assuming that is the case. I’ve met a handful of our representatives (both MS and other states as well) over the years for different business deals I’ve worked on. And CHS is easily the least impressive I’ve ever met. I remember leaving a meeting with her in a little disbelief that she is a senator. I kind of expect there to be a handful of idiots in the house (Bennie Thompson, plenty of others), but I guess I have a little higher expectations of a senator since it’s a statewide election. Maybe I just caught her on a bad day but it would be disappointing to have someone like her in a presidential
That was my impression of her as well. But the big ag lobby in Jackson loves her and have been unwavering in their support. Is CHS Cindy Hyde Smith? I’m assuming that is the case. Mike Highfield could be our new president.
Clinton's AG was Mike Espys until he took football tickets or something like that from, I believe one of the Tyson's from Arkansas. I know because he is from Miss. Ray Mabus was Navy secretary under Obama. Another Mississippian. Dick Channey was the first President Bush defense secretary. I believe he was the last one to have not served in the Military.I can absolutely assure you that far more people, especially powerful ones, know who the Secretary of Agriculture is than know who the President of Mississippi State University is. Maybe not Mississippians, but that’s kind of the point.
He’s known in the ag policy world so it’s really not a reach.and there's your problem in Washington in a nutshell. The guy around here is not liked, fans at other schools outside of here don't know him, yet because of pedigree and favors he is sought after
She's dumb as a brickCindy Hyde Smith
The Farmer Illuminati strikes again. That was my impression of her as well. But the big ag lobby in Jackson loves her and have been unwavering in their support.
Depends on who his replacement is...... Grass isnt always greenerWho here would be devastated if Keenum left?
Pretty true.Depends on who his replacement is...... Grass isnt always greener
We pretty much know it would be a State guy and it won't be RankinsDepends on who his replacement is...... Grass isnt always greener
A definite “be careful what you wish for” deal. He is probably the most influential college president in CFB right now during the most turbulent time. Not a bad thing to have.Depends on who his replacement is...... Grass isnt always greener
Yea, you pretty much know squat. Nobody can predict what that board is going to do.We pretty much know it would be a State guy and it won't be Rankins
Keenum is well liked by most MSU people. He isn't here but this place isn't really representative.and there's your problem in Washington in a nutshell. The guy around here is not liked, fans at other schools outside of here don't know him, yet because of pedigree and favors he is sought after
THIS in a big way.A definite “be careful what you wish for” deal. He is probably the most influential college president in CFB right now during the most turbulent time. Not a bad thing to have.
Before we throw Keenum out remember we are the same university that fired Stans and hired Rick Ray, we are the same university that went several years with out a "full time" president after Zacharias (I know Portera was here for a minute), we hired Joe Morehead after Dan..... What makes anyone think we would do better? Serious question.Since rumors are encouraged, I've heard this from two different people today.
He was the Chief of Staff for Thad Cochran and the undersecretary of Agriculture under Bush.
No idea about her intellect but I do know she's a stick in the mud. Back in '18 when she was the appointed Senator she visited the BBQ contest at Super Bulldog Weekend. She was walking the grounds chit chatting here and there. She and an aide walked past our tent and we said hello and exchanged pleasantries. We offered her a plate as anyone would do at a BBQ contest and she politely declined as expected. I was bored so I said "oh come on, everyone in DC loves pork!" She gave me a the most blank soulless stare, turned around, and walked away. How can you not laugh at that?!She's dumb as a brick
She probably had to ask Phil Bryant how to react first… funny joke on your part though. No idea about her intellect but I do know she's a stick in the mud. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
As someone who started with Zacharias and ended with Portera and spent time on campus with Foglesong and Lee, I identify very much with this take. I'm not a fan of Keenum but he beats Fogelsong, Lee was mediocre (kinda like Keenum as the trains ran on time but probably a net loss), Zacharias was all about the students and we loved him for it, Portera cared little for the students but the money he brought in helped. The odds are high that you WILL get it, and it won't be what you thought it would be.Before we throw Keenum out remember we are the same university that fired Stans and hired Rick Ray, we are the same university that went several years with out a "full time" president after Zacharias (I know Portera was here for a minute), we hired Joe Morehead after Dan..... He's the President of the College Football Playoff. He is the one that went to 12 teams. If its successful, he will get a ton of credit. What makes him "the most influential college president in CFB right now?"
