Sabathia and Sheets...no problem for the Cubs.

The National League's best team served notice the last two nights that the 2008 Cubs may rival the 1908 Cubs. Look out in 2108, when the Cubs could be going for the 08 threepeat.

And who needs the trade deadline when you can just call up some scrub Notre Dame receiver to blow people away.

Cubs and Angels in the World Series. Chicago vs LA. Fox will be happy, although they would probably rather have the Cubs and Red Sox.

and his 1.08 ERA since joining the NL....

Nobody wants to face the Cubs in the playoffs and have to go thru Z, Harden, and Dumpster twice a series...We own the 08's

Actually, I believe it's Dempster tomorrow on ESPN and Harden to close out the series on Thursday.

I definitely think this will be a 3 of 4 series, maybe even a 4 game sweep.

It's also important to note that the Cubs play 19 games at home in August with only 9 on the road. The September schedule is mostly on the road, but the Brewers and Cards are going to have to play really well in August to keep it close going into September.

Well, we'll see where the Cubbies are at the end of the saeason, and more importantly if they do anything if they get into the playoffs.

I just got excited and am experiencing a sheep moment like a Jean's pager when they talk about how good our offense will be this year

No thanks Desoto. You'll need those to wipe away the tears of no postseason for your Cards this year aGAIN.

that thumping was pretty good last night. the club seems to have stabilized from having z, fonso, and wood out. sjmardzia (??) has been a lift while wood is still out. with all those home games in august i look forward to hearing "go cubs go" an awful lot. <interesting tidbit -- someone told me that song was written by steve goodman of david allen coe fame.....although this one doesn't say anything at all about momma or trains or........>

Most importantly, it appears that Lee and Ramirez are pulling out of their brief slumps. Both are starting to see the ball better. Of course Soriano has gotten back to his old form as well. The reason they went on their mini-skid after the break was the lack of hitting. The pitching was good enough for them to have gone on a solid winning streak. The bats just weren't backing them up.

Now, with the big 3 hitters getting back going, and with Fukudome starting to hit more line drives again, they're primed to start to pull away.

I think the starting pitching and the pen will do well enough to set them up for a good string of baseball. The question was when the bats would come out of the slump. It looks like that's happening now. I won't be at all surprised if the Cubs build up a 7 or 8 game lead by the end of August. If they do that, then the slew of road games to close the season really won't be that big of a deal.

If we could somehow get Bobby Howry straightened out I would feel better, since Piniella seems adamant on running him out there dang near every day. If Howry, Cotts, Samardzjia, Eyre, Marmol and Wood are on top of their games, that is a stellar pen. I personally would like to see more of Cotts. He's throwing it well and could be more than a lefty specialist.

I agree. Howry may need a little time off. If Lou can find a way to get him about a week without any heavy throwing, that might help him regroup. I noticed that his ERA has jumped up over 5.00 now. That's not good for a close game set up man. He needs to get back to his old form. I also agree that Cotts should be one of the main contenders to get more innings. He's been solid when called upon.
