I went from having posts pinned on Tom's old board in 2011-2012 w/ BOT contact information and their comings and goings to not giving a **** in only 12 years.

Nice job PSU.

Is PSU going to hire a firm to assist in a NATIONAL. SEARCH. o_O for schuyler’s replacement? Do we have an INTERIM. o_O chair of the bot?

IIRC, he ran for an alumni seat and lost. He was obviously kissing the appropriate backsides to get a seat anyway.

Just looked at the BOT site. The student trustee is Kevin Schuyler. I'll go out on a limb and assume he's related to Matthew. I guess it helps to have an "in". I know it was through an election but with our BOT it wouldn't shock me if there were a couple thumbs on the scale.

Matty Lice was part of the infamous Upward State slate that ran on a platform of "moving on"

During that campaign, Matty wrote an op-ed where he called for honoring Paterno in addition to moving on

Of course now that he has the power, he hasn't done any honoring other than honoring his own den of thieves

Question: “With the training table, the stadium and now the dorms coming in across the street on University Drive — and you’ve worked really hard to make a lot of these things happen — are the big pieces in place? The big picture things that have taken 11 years to happen. Are there any big pieces you’re looking forward to in the years ahead?

Franklin:
“Well, what I will say is, No. 1, I’m appreciative of all the work that’s gone in over our 11 years. One of the things I’d like to show you guys at some point is we’ve taken before-and after pictures of everything. I think back all the way to standing on that turf practice field and my back was up against the fence and you guys were asking me questions — a lot of the same people in the room were asking me questions about facilities. And that was a battle when I first got here.

“The turf — we weren’t allowed to use the turf because it hadn’t been replaced in 10 years, our turf field.

“So, I’m very, very proud of the progress we have made. I’m very, very appreciative of the Board [of Trustees] leadership over my 11 years here. I’m very appreciative of the presidents over my 11 years here. I’m very appreciative of the ADs.

“I will say this: In the last, I guess it’s probably been three years, with Neeli [Bendapudi] and Pat [Kraft] and [BOT chair] Matt Schuyler and pretty soon [new BOT chair David] Kleppinger, it has changed. And, again, very appreciative of the support we’ve gotten over 11 years, but I would say in the last three years it’s been different. I would say specifically in the last year-and-a-half, it’s been different because the first year-and-a-half, when you get on campus, you’re just trying to kind of figure it all out. And once they were able to figure it all out, we are getting the type of support at a level that I think this place demands and should have.

“But we are getting the type of support in the last year-and-a-half through those people that we have not had here. So, are there still things that need to be done? Yes. Yes. We’ll be saying that for the rest of our time here because you guys know it’s constantly a moving target. But I think that was the problem, right?

“When you stop trying to get better on a daily and a yearly basis and you’re not bold and aggressive with those things all the time, you can fall behind and you can fall significantly behind.

“So, yeah, there’s still a lot of things that we have to get done. But we are closer…not even close…we are closer than we have been in my 11 years, not even close from a support standpoint and a commitment standpoint.

“And, again, that is a credit to Neeli Bendapudi, Matt Schuyler and clearly Pat Kraft. Clearly Pat Kraft, walk-on linebacker in the Big Ten, who approaches his job like that every single day. And I mean that with total respect.”

Yeah, but what about the real important things ... like a statue?!?

Another bag of $heit that needs to be taken to the river and disposed of.

As you look at the board operations, can you describe why the board recently revised its structure and bylaws as a result of its recent self-assessment? How those changes designed to position the board for the future?

That’s the bottom line: The idea was to position the board for the future and support our administration as we collectively work to position the institution to be as successful as possible. We closely examined our existing bylaws and determined they were outdated. The process started two years ago with a self-assessment during our annual board retreat, after which a working group was formed. In consultation with an outside expert, the group studied best practices for boards and took on the challenge of reviewing our governance and committee structure and our bylaws to see where refinements could be made. The needed changes were in some ways tactical, in terms of updating language used or evolving protocols for how we govern to make our meetings more effective and efficient, and in some ways strategic, removing details that weren’t necessary for governance so that we, as a self-governing board, can focus even more on the areas that matter most. That working group spent the bulk of a year reviewing and discussing the board structure and bylaws. They ultimately recommended to modernize the board’s committee structure to enhance those committees — including putting more focus on student success and research and technology, which previously weren’t a focus of board governance, as well as retaining a subcommittee on risk that is designated to identify, understand and mitigate risks to the institution. The streamlined board structure and updated bylaws were the outcome of cross-board collaboration to reshape how the board continues its focus on strategic support for and oversight of the University.
