I just read that the Saints have not selected a quarterback in the first round since 1971 when they picked Archie at number two. That is astounding.

That's crazy. But with the failure rate of 1st round QBs, maybe not a terrible strategy. Pick up a more proven QB in free agency. Worked pretty well with Brees. Not so much since.

I don't think the problem is so much the hit rate on 1st round QBs as much as it is bad teams expecting 1st round QBs that are not true franchise QBs to turn around their team. If a bad team had drafted Dak in the top 10 picks, not sure what his first few years would have looked like. If your are looking at Cam Newton or Andrew Luck, yea, roll the dice even if you're terrible. If you're talking yourself into Baker Mayfield or Kyler Murray, maybe trade down and try to build out the rest of your team and then take a shot on a mid round QB.

All you have to do is pick out the next Brady, or even Dak, and you'll be better off.**

If you go on record that fill in the blank first-round QB is not going to work out, you’ll be right a lot more than you’re wrong.
Couple of years old, but summary of all 1st round QBs taken since 2011:

It's not even close. Hell yeah, I'm taking Dart.
I'm taking somebody else with the first rounder in '25 and rolling with Rattler until I figure it out - Sanders and Dart both look like turds to me.

I do not like the QB options in this years draft after Ward, and he will be gone after the first pick. I would go best available at 9, not a QB.

Either way this is the beginning of a multi year rebuild most likely. There is a legit chance they suck even worse this year and can get into the Arch sweepstakes in 2026.

Yeah, I probably would too. But I think Fart is legit. (Spell check or my sloppy iPhone typing, I’m not fixing this one).

If you go back 10 years and look at the QB classes for each year, there are only 3 years one could point to and say there were multiple options to get a true 1st round guy (2024, 2020 & 2018). The names listed the other years were less than inspiring but teams had to spin the PR to make people believe they have the next best thing. Steelers did that somewhat with Kenny Pickett.

I hope the Steelers wait until next year to get a qb and I'm perfectly fine throwing Mason Rudolph out there as a starter to hopefully get a better draft pick next year.

The problem for the Steelers is that Tomlin is too good of a coach to ever allow them to get a high draft pick.
