After 7 innings, Cease was at 94-95 pitches and it looked like Shildt was going to pull him. Cease told him that he was feeling good and he had already thrown 110+ pitches in a game this season. Shildt let him go back out there and he got through the final 2 innings pretty quickly. Had Cease not been a veteran, I don't think he'd have had the pull to talk his way back out there for the 8th inning. Good on Cease to stick to his guns and good on Shildt for letting him go after history.

Nolan Ryan threw 235 pitches in a game once. Let that sink in. Gaylord Perry hit 5 guys in an inning simply because he was pissed off - before being ejected. Don't piss him off.
