Just a guess on my part, but thinking new pres told her she is out and wants her own AD.

This would certainly garner goodwill from the posters here. I'm not sure I have ever seen anyone on this board who supported Barbour. I really don't have an opinion on her with the exception that I think her approach to new facilities has been terrible since she doesn't prioritize them, which an AD should.

I thought I read somewhere that the new prez has a reputation of being unfriendly to athletics. Does anybody else recall that? If that is true, I'm not sure Sandy's retirement is a good sign.

And there was much rejoicing in the halls of the accounting office.

Good. However, as hard as it seems, we probably can do worse. Let us hope that is not the case.

Joyner and Sandy back to back as ADs was like a double kick in the balls for the overall health of Athletics, especially behind the scenes.
Sandy's financial after-effects at Cal are well-documented. I could be wrong but it doesn't appear that we should be in that bad of shape financially after she leaves, other than maybe having a lot of extra assistant ADs we didn't have before. I think we have good football and men's basketball coaches in place, even if some think Franklin's deal is too long. She's done a little better overall than I expected.

The only thing about which I'm confident regarding Barbour's retirement is that the minions here will begin criticizing Barbour's successor before he or she even takes office. Then again, can you name me an AD who is liked by their school's fan base?

Your are overly generous. Both coaches are under .500 combined over last two years.

She see decimated Cal and has Penn State pointed in the same direction. And she contributes heavily to the to the overspending philosophy that has afflicted PSU and has devastated our academic rankings. To be fair, Shrews seems like he will be a very good hire…but time will tell.

I think our past 2 Presidents have had a hell of a lot more to do with that than the AD.

I don‘t get it. Sandy said in a recent interview that she was having fun at PSU.

Don't worry, I'm sure she's still getting paid the remainder of her contract, now she just doesn't get free coffee when she goes into work.

Barbour announces her retirement this summer. Congrats on an outstanding career...

While I can think of many words to describe her time at Penn State, "outstanding" is not one of them. She had the tools (fan base, money, etc) to move the program forward, but she did little more than tread water. In this era of college athletics, if you are not advancing, you are losing ground. I wish her well but find no sadness in her departure.
