I had heard it from an "in the know" individual before my post, but within the past few minutes have seen it from multiple source.

It's unfortunate and sad, but we had to go in another direction in hopes of energizing the program.
Yeah, it’s nothing to be happy about. Frank is a good man and a very good basketball coach in a lot of ways. The relationship here had simply run its course. He wasn’t disastrous here. Things were just stale. A change is probably best for him as well.

Frank's problem is twofold. All the screaming and yelling at his players just doesn't work for todays kids.Secondly, like Bruce Webber,Frank was unwilling to play the cheating game...With the NIL in place maybe theb next coach won't have to cheat to win.

I had a boss at my last job who screamed and yelled. After a while it became a joke because nothing changed. He wouldn't fire the people that needed to be fired, he just yelled. I got tired of working in that dysfunctional climate and left.

Ray is still employed.
IMO, RT wanted to make a change at the end of last season, but his hands were tied. Perhaps a lesser buyout at this time tipped the scales.

I am tired of false promises year after year. Sadly, 2017 turned out to be an anomaly.

Going in another direction won’t energize the program. Ray Tanner should try putting more resources in to the basketball program. We will continue to be a bad program if they don’t. All I see Frank Martin being blamed for not sustaining final four success but in reality how did Ray Tanner help him? We had 3 top 100 kids from Columbia between 2016-2017 class and couldn’t land them. I stay in Columbia and didn’t see any banner around Columbia to broadcast the men 2017 run. I didn’t see any basketball OP building being built to show recruits that we care about basketball just like Unc, UK, Duke, and etc. Frank Martin as a coach can do but so much without 100% dedication from the AD to make USC a great landing spot. Our football program on the hand don’t have to worry about that.

Frank Martins recruiting was not anything to get excited about was that Ray Tanner's issue? I do not know, but just like Frank Martin, Ray Tanner needs to retire also.

Coach K only has to do it once in a while……Frank did all game and every game.
The bigger difference is that Coach K have NBA talent across us roster to not have to do it all game.

Recruiting basketball is a little different than recruiting football. These highly recruited in state guys want to play for a college that care about their basketball program just as much as their football program. They have to see signs that they could make it to the league as well. What have USC done as a whole to show talented kids that’s being recruited by every school in the country that they put money behind the basketball program? CLA? Cmon. Football team goes 2-10, 6-7, 9-4, and 7-6 and get a brand new op building. The basketball team wins 25 games then the next season make it to the final foul and get nothing not even a banner downtown lol

Word is that Frank's fate may have been sealed when he blasted Leveque after the Auburn game. It was seen as an unnecessary cheap shot.

I appreciate Frank and what he did while here. It was time for a change though. I supported him up until half way through this year and realized it was time for a change. I liked him, and don’t like changing coaches, but we can’t hide behind “almost” for 9 out of 10 years. He was robbed one year, but we still weren’t there.

I had hoped this year would be a breakthrough but it was not. We have a good enough roster and should have danced. We had height and we had good guards. Frank’s screaming became a distraction, and I never felt like it was helping us win, it seemed like we won some in spite of…if u get my drift.

Players like Wilson and Gray could have been huge assets, but Frank chose to play his son over them. He always finds a couple of players where fans get excited about and puts them in his doghouse…and they never get out. Gray could be huge with some confidence…but Frank chose to yank him at the first mistake and sometimes never put him back in. Even one of the announcers said Frank told them that he thought Gray would play in the NBA one day. I find it amusing that he can’t play for us.

Wilson went from starter to not seeing the floor. We all saw him play well overall. I never understood it and it truly cost us 4 or more games byhim taking our chance away. And I like Branden…but he is not an SEC type player, especially against big teams. Plus, he didn’t yank his son at the first mistake…..it couldn’t have helped morale as it was glaring. All the screaming in the world can’t fix terrible game management.

So I thank him for being a Gamecock…..but we both needed a change. I think he would agree.
