SEC Tourney in B'ham

Having just returned from the Redbirds game, I see that on a meaningless Sunday night (although with fireworks), the Memphis Redbirds had over 12,000 in attendance. In contrast, the SEC tournament championship game drew just over 7,800. It amazes me that the SEC would keep the tournament in B'ham and not even give Memphis a one year shot at hosting. Maybe Veazey needs to do some digging as to why that is when he starts his new gig in Memphis.

They would have to blow the press areas up completely and start over

Then they would have to add about 2,000 seats

However, Trustmark would be an awesome venue after that

It looks like Conference USA is ready to make a long term commitment to the area ... which is good

Really that stadium could not handle anything bigger ... heck the internet was overloaded during the MSU-Ole Miss Governor's Cup game this year ... and that was with 20 member medias, not 120

I just don't believe the arguments are good ones for not even moving the tournament for one year and I wanted to point out that comparing the 2 venues Sunday, Autozone Park had 50% more people in attendance.<div>
</div><div>And, for the record, I don't buy RV parking as a valid reason for choosing a host location. The fans in RVs buy the same tickets as the fans who walk or drive non-RVs. It seems to me that the conference would place importance on total attendance, regardless of how the fans got to the games and where they parked.</div><div>
</div><div>As for press facilities, that seems to be a valid concern, and I don't know what the press boxes at each is like, but I find it hard to imagine that Hoover has significantly more press capacity than Memphis. Even assuming that it does, however, given the number of luxury boxes in Memphis compared to Hoover, I would think they would be able to find a temporary solution to the additional press that may be needed at the SEC tournament.</div>
