I must admit. The pregame theatrics on CBS had the makings of a massive titanic clash between two powerhouse football programs in Penn State and Auburn. Bryce-Jordan-Hare Stadium was lit and the atmosphere looked supercharged in a bright shade of electric orange. Loved the pageantry of the War Eagle flying in and all the reports from our fellow Penn Staters saying how nice Auburn's campus looked and how hospitable their fans were. Seemed like a real nice friendly squirmish -- until the game began. Would like to ask that someone please post the full 3.5-hour video of Penn State putting Auburn's mouth on a curb and...

THIS HAS BEEN EDITED FOR CLARITY: Is it just me, or does anyone else not think of Micah Parsons as a Penn State legend? The guy only played two years, and was really only good for maybe the second half of his second year. Sure, he may be one of the best linebackers in the NFL and a great ambassador for PSU football, but half a season of great play just doesn’t cut it for me.

i wouldn’t say that, but I’m disappointed in not being able to see him play what would be his last season. I blame Covid, not Micah for that though.

I would not be surprised if Singleton leaves after 2 years.

I don't blame Micah in the least for doing his best to navigate the clusterfuck that was the government and school's response to covid. He busted his *** the entire time he was at Penn State. Regardless of any result, that's more than enough for me.

Plus he has a young child (infant back in 2020?). I’m sure that factored into his decision not to play in 2020.

College is meant to prepare you for life. You don't owe it any more of your years than it takes to accomplish that preparation.

If some prodigy engineering or math student graduates in 2 1/2 years we don't hold it against them....just sayin'.

He could have chosen to give that really good 1/2 season to any school. He chose to give it to us. So he's a Penn Stater to me.

And as others have pointed out....covid played a role.

Possibly just you. He put his body on the line and presumably attended classes for two years (or did he enroll early? I don’t recall). That makes him a “true Penn Stater” to me.

He graduated early from high school to enroll early at Penn State. He graduated from Penn State in three years. Just what the f#@k is your definition of a true Penn Stater?

Just to clarify - I don’t begrudge him for any decision he made. In fact, I’d probably do the same if I was him. It’s just that his short career at Penn State simply wasn’t very impressive to me. I feel exactly the same about Duke basketball players like Zion Williamson who leave after one year, no matter how good they may have been.

I’ll tell you what the f#@k is my definition. I don’t think somebody who played for two years - regardless of the reasons why - and really didn’t have much of an impact beyond 1/4 of that time should be lauded as a star (or whatever term is bestowed upon him). Is he a great NFL player? You bet. Is he a former Penn State football player with a ton of talent and promise? Absolutely. But is he one of the great great Penn State linebackers of all time? No, he is not.

Are the walk-one who never play true Penn Staters?
You’re saying two different things here, including one that I agree with. I agree that he is not one of the all time great Penn State linebackers. But he’s as “true” a Penn Stater as anybody else, especially if he graduated.

Yeah, I see that now. My bad. When I said “true Penn Stater” I actually meant Penn State icon, or something along those lines.

Fair enough.
If Parsons had played a third year, I think he’s be up there with the best to ever play at Penn State. Shame for us that we didn’t get to see it.

Many times there’s a full replay on YouTube but then it gets taken down over copywrite issues. So look today

I’d say he’s one of the most talented to ever play at Penn State. And all indications are that he may very well have been one of the best ever.

So the local guy stays home and we have a national pandemic and he decides to keep himself out of harms way. If there was no vocid and he tore up the league would he be one of the greats at PSU then? Would if he was injured and missed a year instead of COVID would he then be great LB at PSU? He is an amazing athlete who stayed home at PSU and was dealt a deck of cards that no one expected and made some adult decisions for safety. We will disagree I guess... I think he is an ambassador for PSU and tweets about the program often. If he only played a few years due to a pandemic so be it for me it doesn't change his greatness at PSU

I don’t disagree about him being a great athlete and ambassador. But the fact is that he was not a great player while at Penn State.

I guess help us out here ... Define in your eyes what would have made him a great player at PSU? How many sacks? How many hurries? How many TFL? What numbers what ascend him to greatness at PSU? Maybe help us put it in context for us

If Parsons played a third year, he may not have been drafted in the first round. I'm not sure he alone could have saved that season.

That seems to be the consensus based on the wording of my original post, which was clumsy. My point was that I don’t think Parsons did anything special at PSU to earn him the high praise and elevated status he apparently has here.

Nope you are the minority so convince us he was average or tell us what would make him great in your eyes. Would you say Mac Morrison was better? How about Trey Bauer?
I’m only in the minority based on the 6 or so people who’ve responded. Besides, I didn’t say he was average. I said he didn’t do anything special while playing for PSU, and the stats back me up.

I don’t know enough about Mac Morrison to comment, but I’d absolutely put Trey Bauer ahead of Micah Parsons when it comes to the positive impact each player had.

Here is a half hour highlights package that does a good job of capturing the ebbs and flows of the game. With its length, obviously, it shows far more plays than your standard highlight reel.

I get that. What I don’t get is why he receives all the accolades he gets on this board. Just my opinion that I wondered if anyone else shared.

Honestly, he's near perfect of representation for what you want out of a former player. He's at the highest level dominating. He's active on social media constantly cheering the team on. He shows up when he can and makes appearances seemingly.

I've not really seen anybody label him as the best PSU LB ever; he just happens to be one of the 5 best defensive players in the NFL currently and vocal about Penn State.
