Serious question about Sellers and the Portal...

The question is more about "ifs" than Sellers - (you can insert any name you want on any team, really)

If Sellers was going to the portal for some reason, wouldn't he have already done it??? I'm assuming there is probably some sort of "negative" from entering the portal on the last day it's open.... ??... or .....??

I dont see any negative to waiting till the last day.

Unfortunately, he, and others like him, are probably being recruited right up until the last minute.

Makes me wonder though why so many players seemingly bounce to the portal right away....???

Yeah, honestly don't know the spread of when people enter.

A lot of the guys who leave day 1 might have been contacted ahead of time. I bet tampering is just rampant.

Hypothetically speaking, suppose you are a very good OL looking to transfer to, say, Bama because they are offering good money and there’s an opportunity to start.

However, you know Bama is courting several other excellent OL players. What if the other players were willing to take less money OR Bama decided they liked what they saw in the other OL?

I’d think the sooner you entered the portal, the better chance you have to land a spot and negotiate terms. Waiting until the end would put you at a disadvantage.

That makes sense. So, on a very broad, generally speaking situation - Can we assume that the longer any player waits to enter the portal - the better the odds that they stay at a given school?
