Shad White’s report of government waste….

Can someone tell me why his office, and others, were not included?
The easy answer: An audit department conducting an audit of its own department wouldn’t be seen as good as one conducted by another group.

When you’re running for Governor, you aren’t necessarily wanting your own record discussed.

Just scanning the article, I think it's a pretty good and non-partisan report. Hard to argue against any of the recommendations mentioned in the article.

Abolish the elected transportation commission. They have no authority to tax/spend on transportation projects. Only state in nation with such a board.

In looking at his suggested cuts, most of his findings don’t impress me very much, and are extremely speculative. The ones that are pretty obvious are that the state should move toward paperless offices and e-filing, when possible. Also the state’s procurement code needs an overhaul and competitive procurement should be the rule. 30% of procurements being on an “emergency” basis reeks of laziness, incompetence, and possibly conflicts of interest.

I could’ve saved the state 2 million bucks on this one.

I had a pretty good laugh when almost every office was audited except Shad’s office and the office of the Governor. Laughed even harder when I saw we only spent 2 million dollars of taxpayer money.

What’s even more infuriating is Shad’s office has no authority to enact any changes from the reports findings. He basically wasted 2 million for an FYI to the state.

What a joke. Sad thing is, I would assume, he’s the odds on favorite to be our next Governor.

Shad White has been arresting school secretaries, clerks, and librarians for seven years. They didn’t have receipts for everything, therefore they are thieves. Yet, we have a volleyball facility built with welfare money and no one has been prosecuted each the low-level welfare appointees. I have no respect for him. He’s Ole Miss, Harvard, and Jones county. The combination of those factors make me ill.

These are the things that are maddening. I am a conservative/Republican (most of the time). I know the guy is not stupid. But these are the types of things that make you sick as far as the conservatives in MS. What are they 17ing doing? What are they thinking?

You can argue that Shad White didn't go after some big fish but you can't argue the people he got "just made some mistakes".

Thats complete dishonest bull $h1t

Our procurement process needs a complete overhaul. I work on State contracts all the time and the three bids take the lowest does not reward good work. Also, it opens the door for bad work that costs the state more down the road.

See where wasted money is spent in the state and making it public is an extremely good thing.

Doesn't surprise me you can't figure that out though.

I'm not saying this is the case everywhere in the state or the federal government, but i know it happens a lot.

Bids documents or parts of those documents get sent to certain people ahead of time. They have plenty of time to review and be thorough and competitive. Then the public release gives others 2 weeks to review and put together a bid.

Lots of times you have the government paying exuberant prices for things.

I know people through business dealing he has went after and every case I have seen was justified. There are a lot of awful people in this state. Also, isn’t he getting sued for going after Favre?

I have seen that also. Our whole State purchasing process is awful.

I agree.

However, like what's already been stated in this thread, most of the things in the report are obvious and could have been implemented without paying 2M.

Spend $2 million of public money to kick off your campaign for governor makes perfect since. BTW the too many state vehicles is such a weak take. Want to look at people having a state vehicle assigned to an individual, other than law enforcement, sure but that is mostly nonexistent today.

How do you know thats not what hes referring to? I worked for MDEQ and they had tons of vehicles in a lot. They were used, but not all at once and not efficiently.

Shad's issue is he's a genuinely smart guy. He is an actual Rhodes Scholar. We really dislike smart in Mississippi. We have some intelligent politicians, but they have to say things they know are dumb to keep the masses happy.

You see Shad trying to do this, but for him it comes across as insincere. "No way this smart guy believes the same dumb **** we believe."

He’s smart enough to know how dumb the general electorate is.
Half the people won’t even put together that he didn’t audit his own office.
The other half won’t care as long as that R is next to his name.

If he had audited his own office and the report had said anything other than he should resign then he would have been lambasted by the same people lambasting him now. I know nothing about the guy other than the basics. I have heard him speak to a relatively small group. He is definitely one of the more impressive Mississippi politicians I have ever heard speak.

I wonder why some political threads get locked instantly and others the moderators let run on. A lot like SEC Refs. No consistency. I am sure I am not the only one who wonders about it.

Well I beg to differ ...when I looked at his cases ....he only goes after the people who can't afford adequate defense....the three cases that I pulled all the public records on were all weak cases . He avoids anyone who can mount a defense and expose.his tactics through discovery

zero chance I'd believe any report about a govt department written by that same department. I would assume (maybe incorrectly) that there's some law stating that some other govt dept is in charge of auditing his dept. It's not his fault if they aren't doing their job.

For the record, I'm not a Shad White fan or detractor. I'm a MS resident in tax name only. Haven't lived there in almost 10 years but they still require me to send them a check every year because that's where I'm registered to vote.

After reading the posts more I definitely wouldn't believe a report from his "buddies" in Boston that he (his dept) paid for. He should be audited for sure but not by an auditor he paid 2M too.

Again, I have no idea about this topic but that's never stopped a SixPacket from posting. Just seems logical to me.
