Besides Don Edwards (as mentioned in the story), David Rudsinski (sp) who was the basketball SID and Pat Wallace who ran the ticket office for 30+ years.

Several others got a bump down, so I hear.

I would want to find out if the writer of that article graduated from UM journalism school. To say that the writing is horrible would be a complete insult to horrible writers everywhere.

As for the merits of the personnel decisions, I can understand Byrne wanting to shed Pat Wallace. Time for an overhaul of that rust bucket of a ticket office. Time for new blood who can easily transition into 20th century technology (not a mistake). Hopefully before long we can actually step into century 21.

"Out of 5, with 5 being excellent, I received a 4.4 in 2007 and a 3.97 in '08, so I'm not really sure what they are basing that on,

Must be shooting for a 5.

4.4 ain't good enough any more. Too many people have been 3.9-4.4 for too long.

But performance ratings are almost worse than useless. The rating all depends on the supervisor and some supervisors will give a 4 or a 5 (on a 5 scale) to every employee in their department no matter how much they suck, while others will only give a 4 or a 5 to the truly outstanding performers.

performance appraisals can be meaningless, unless you want to fire an employee who's been getting inflated ratings.

Could be that Edwards and the others will have a legitimate claim. There are other ways Byrne could have handled the restructuring.

MSU AD) Greg Byrne probably got some misinformation from someone.

Lets see, the guy overseeing the basketball facility and the basketball SID get the axe within one day.
I think we also know that according to rumor that LT and Stans didnt see eye to eye on things

hmmmmm...........

edited to add....."allegedly" SID guy got the axe
"allegedly" Stans and LT didnt see eye to eye
"allegedly" hmmmmmmm......

dont take it to mean that Greg is trying to make favors with Rick, supposedly Rick is pissed about David being let go..as well he should be. The man worked his *** off in a thankless position that we are already short-staffed at in the athletics dept.

with what's currently going on within the athletic department. Obviously, when management changes after 20 years there is going to be some shakeup but I don't get the impression Byrne would be the type guy that would take pleasure in canning someone just for the fun of it. The man has been chosen to do a job, so let's let him do it and then eventually judge him on what results we end up with. From the outside there is no way for me to know if these personnel changes or good or bad, but for the time being, and given the "good ole boy" system our athletic department has been run under for the past two decades, I'm going to give Byrne the benefit of the doubt.

Not true. GB hired LT's guys to be his right hand men. And Stans is EXTREMELY pissed about Rosinski and the others. I think that this whole thing is NOT good for the department. All of those people worked hard for MSU. You don't talk about MSU "Family" in one breath and then fire 20+ year employees without even giving them a valid reason.

She was barely qualified to tear tickets at a high school softball game, muchless run an SEC ticket office.

Rosinski - that's a different story. Hardest working dude in the athletic department, he was fired because certain people simply did not like him.

Agree on Pat, it was time for her to go.
But I would love to hear more about who in the hell doesnt like David, seriously one of the nicest guys i knew in the athletic dept and seriously worked his *** off nonstop and never complained. This was a mistake in letting him go, should of shitcanned the cronnies of LT who didnt like him instead.

When I hear people getting shitcanned I expected lazy sack of crap like Bobby T and good ole boys like him.

.............that we were "in the black" every year. Yeah, so what?! It didn't mean we couldn't do more to raise money, do better at hiring coaches, do better at building facilities, etc.

As has been stated before, he's probably the hardest working guy in the Media Relations department. Letting Pat Wallace, Bobby T and some others go, would not be a mistake. Stans had a very good relationship with Rosinski and I am sure is not happy.

is that Byrne wants to bring in his own people and has had certain people in mind for certain positions.

I'm also guessing that they're probably coming from Kentucky.

Everybody whines about how mediocre Mississippi State, how behind the times we are. Yet, when someone like Doc Fogelsong or Greg Byrne try to make Mississippi State an excellent university, all the professors and other employees suddenly grow unibrows, buck teeth, tobaccy spittle, and whine, "DA'S NAWT DUH WAY WE'S DUNN IT 'ROWND HERE 'FER!!!"

I know, it's only girls. However, they had qualified to host one of the Pods in the NCAA Girls' basketball tournament. Yet, there was something else going on in town. Larry Templeton couldn't or wouldn't do anything to accomodate the other girls teams and the dozens of fans they had come along with them, so MState had to "host" the tourney from Oregon. If Greg Byrne was AD back then, he'd have probably found a way to get the tournament in Starkville. So far, every move Byrne has made has been the right one. We need to cut him some slack until we see what his vision for MState will be.

I can't believe I am going to defend the nutless wonder that is LT, but us having to go to Oregon had nothing to do with what LT did or didn't do. It was simply a case of other events (non-university if I remember correctly) being in town and their not being enough hotel rooms available.

And I'll echo what others have said - I think Rosinski getting let go is a huge mistake. His personality was a little unusual at times - he loves Gloria Estafan for goodness sakes - be he was a great guy and a hard worker. I hope he lands on his feet somewhere.

How hard is it for an Athletic Director to find room for 3 Girls basketball teams, coaching staff, and the dozen or so of their fans? The Microtel could've put them in the Janitor's closet on each floor.

When someone comes in and makes the tough decisions people start complaining. "He made a mistake there. How dare he do that?" People are all for change until the change comes and then they start complaining because there's actual change taking place. Wow, what a concept. You hire someone to change the way the AD operates and then he actually does what you hired him for.

I have no knowledge of these people he fired, but it's decision. He will be judged on how the AD operates under him.

and the Starkville area did not have enough. State held the national or regional convention of college recruiters (like Roadrunner) that weekend. And if the infamous Jimmy Abraham speech that played on MSU Channel 30 of "Right Now!! Right Now!!! Right Now!!!".

Letting ANYONE go is rarely a huge mistake. Everyone is replaceable. It might be the waste of an otherwise good employee who could do a good job. It might be a lot harder to train the new person than use the person who is already trained. It might be a poor use of human resources to get rid of someone who can do a good job.

But, huge mistake? That terminology only applies to a termination of a minute fraction of the workforce. I think I do an outstanding job. But, huge mistake for my employer to fire me? -- nah.

in its sports information compacity. I think we have been weak in that aspect of the schools promotion for all sports all the way back to Hartley

I think everyone has had problems with the ticket office

Since I was traveling with the UAB team that year, I am kind of glad I got to go to Oregon. Just wish we hadn't flown home after winning the POD and then turn around two days later to fly back to Portland. Talk about dumb.

What has been the problem in media relations over the past 10 years, in your opinion? I've always heard they are one of the better run offices in the league.

and ask - what has the dept. done well. do you think MSU sports are promoted adequately. maybe adequately but that is setting the bar very low.

seems to be whether Byrne should be doing what he is doing with regard to personnel, I will weigh in on that first: I don't care. He can do what he wants with the personnel reporting under him. That's his prerogative -- good, bad, fair, unfair. Whatever. He gets to build his team.

However, on the point of your email regarding the ticket office: I have never had any problems at all with the ticket office. I have always had courteous service, and had my expectations met and exceeded.

You obviously haven't spoken with the same employee(s) I have. I have twice been told that I couldn't order full price season football tickets over the phone and I would have to mail in the order form that came in the brochure. That is beyond unacceptable. The first time, after expressing my shock that she would actually refuse to take an order from someone who was ready to give her his credit card number, she reluctantly took the order. The second time, I figured I'd better just do as she said and mail my order form in. That this could even happen is proof enough to me that that employee and her manger should both be fired at the very least.
