Just a quick word of warning.. yesterday I visited a friend at the Baptist Hospital. as I was coming home I stopped at the Shell across from Fenians to get a little gas. I put $10 of gas on my card @ the pump. later last night I was checking my balance and they had put $400 on my card in two $200 transactions. I called my Amex card and told them what happened. they said the would take carre of it within 48 hours. so in realilty it is nothing more than an inconvenience but it still $ucks. anyway just a word of warning for any of you who might work or live or hospital arounf Fortigication to use your card there @ your own risk.

Every gas station charges that amount on your card and then credits it back but it is odd that it was two transactions.

That is Murder Shell. The owner cooks food at the Mexican restaurant and sells it wrapped in aluminum foil. It is delicious.

We have a Murder Shell in Baton Rouge, too. People get murdered there. Can't speak for the food.

Gas stations will often place a hold on a card, though the amount may vary, when it is used at the pump. They usually fall off within 24 hours.
about 9 or 10 years ago i got a few $100 gift cards for Christmas and put like $30 in gas on one. i tried to use it the next day and it had nothing left on it. found out they filled it up till the payment went through so im somewhat familiar with the process but I just thought athat that was just for gift cars, not an Amex card
Glad you lived. Bad place to stop.
it was around lunchtime which is stil not ideal and which is also why I put such a small amount in. i mos def wasn't going to stand there for 5 minutes filling up.

Weird, we pay for our gas with a CC and I have literally never heard of this (it has never happened to me in 3 decades of paying my own bills).
I have my Amex card for the farm on my phone and it pops up purchases. As soon as I swipe it to fill up with diesel at just about any major gas station a 100, 125, or 250 dollar charge pops up. It then credits back minus the amount of fuel I bought.

I have been paying for gas and diesel on a credit card for 40 years. I have never had anything over a $1 hold charge, except at Buckatunna on a trip to Florida. I never stopped again at Buckatunna.

I had similar experience at Big Box Hardware. Wife put some appliances on AMEX and Big Box Hardware rang it up on AMEX twice. It wasn't a mistake, AMEX says retailers do it to make sure their transaction is in and to keep other transactions from going in ahead of theirs and you/me not having enough limit to cover it. In my instance a $2000+ transaction turned into a $4,000+ transaction and made some utility charges that reoccur every month on that card get denied because they put my card over the limit. That's BS and I tried to tell the big box sure that, twice, but they hung up both times before I could get started

I know about it because I used to work in a bank and it was a common complaint that the Chevron down the road would do $150 holds.

That’s why you pay inside and never at the pump

That's wild. Doesn't matter what station I go to, before I get out of the parking lot the correct amount pops up on my phone screen as pending.

Crazy K’s in Buckatunna has the best gas station food in the state. Don’t ruin it for me!

I went back and looked on my Amex. Kroger does 150, Walmart (Murphy USA) does 200, another does just 100. It varies with each gas station.
I have a distrust of pretty much everything electronic that anyone can use. I just go in and prepay with cash.

Carrying cash with you is way more likely to result in financial loss compared to using a card, especially a credit card. Pretty much all (if not all) cards have zero liability for situations like this. You may be inconvenienced but you’re not gonna be on the hook for a fraudulent charge. Cash is misplaced or stolen then it’s just gone. And checks are a terrible option too. I wouldn’t be shocked to see checks not even be an option on the future.

My wife and I go grocery shopping on Saturday and use debit card. I take out 120.00 cash for gas and other odds and ends we might need that week and that's how we control spending. Once it is spent that is it. Someone wants to rob me good luck to them. Miss Gun laws and my Marine Corp hand to hand combat training makes me and my wife feel safe. I do not worry about being rob. Plus, I am big dude. Not too many people going to **** with me. They are going to find that guy with the debit card, stick a gun to his head and make him clean out his checking account at the ATM.

My buddy used to have his factory down the road where he employed about 50 people. He warned them if they ate tacos from there he would fire them. Dozens did it and always got busted. They'd have to shìt all afternoon when they returned to work and would moan in pain/relief.
