Sorry for hiatus. I’m not in jail😂
Hear me out.

Buckeyes play IU and Michigan the next two weeks. Let’s say they win both. Why risk another GM to get 1 seed?

If they get 1 seed they prob have to play Bama/ND winner and Oregon to get to title game.

If they get 5 seed, they would get Boise St at home, BYU and Oregon to get to title game. Which road is more difficult?

Not sure they have a choice. Opt out would be a forfeit IMO.

If this is what you are bringing to the table, go back on hiatus.

After watching Oregon a little yesterday, I think OSU wins comfortably in the rematch.
I’m thinking it’s very difficult to beat a close rival twice in one season, borderline impossible to go 3-0. That’s why KC is cool with losing today vs buffalo

let's say they CAN opt out. What stops PSU/Indiana/Oregon to opt out as well, and so on until we've got a Maryland vs Nebraska BIG "Championship" game

Except that the vast majority of the time (15 times in 24 opportunities) the "borderline impossible" is exactly what happens.
Otherwise, yeah.

The outliers sear in one’s memory. Georgetown beat Villanova twice before the tables turned in the final.

The BIG front office has a history of making decisions that favor Ohio State. The others….not so much.

I feel like they might get rid of conference championships at some point. Its a disadvantage to play in one and lose vs. being a 5 seed and not playing in it at this point.

Of the 4 top teams in the Big Ten this year - Oregon, OSU, Indiana, and Penn State:

OSU played all three of the others.
Each of the others played ONLY OSU.

I know it is hard to project which teams will be strong/weak from year to year - who would have figured Indiana would have as many wins as USC and Michigan combined? FWIW: If one would have expected Michigan would be a top team, OSU has them on schedule as well (Oregon and Penn State do not).

If that was PSU who had played all the other top teams, PSU fans would be screaming about how unbalanced the schedules were.... and they would have a point.

BTW: The beauty of super-conferences doesn't end with the Big Ten.
There are three teams battling it out for the ACC title - NONE of them have played one another, and none of them will play one another, during the rest of the regular season.
"Tie-breakers" to get to the championship game could look like Chinese calculus.

Probably about the same time they go to "16".

I believe conference championship games have exceeded their useful life. Unfortunately, I also I think conferences make too much money off those games to let them slip away.
