I don’t blame the kid for taking the money, but what is the bigger picture when the cream of this year’s crop is willing to compete at a lower level for the right price? Or put another way, how many kids would love the opportunity to compete against the very best, but never get the opportunity OR the millions of dollars? With the news of Travis Hunter flipping to Jackson State for millions of dollars thanks to NIL, I am thinking we need to find a way to connect a bit more with all of our many CEO alumni around the country... Our highly esteemed business school could come in handy here.
I'm tired of these guys already. Let's move on to next year's class.
Did the RB from Florida sign?
The coaches have just not developed themFour hours and they‘ve contributed nothing to PSU on the field. Pfft.
Nope. Reed was recruited as a Safety and played a good bit at Safety this season, especially the last few games, so that is 6, a true 3 deep.Presuming Mills signs, we'll be down to 5 safeties- Winston, Driver, Mills, Ellis and Brown. There's a good chance Brown goes to the NFL so there's going to be a need at the position.
Who? Lincoln Riley? So much for being a great recruiter
I wouldn't think the NFL would punish him. Deion's name is probably still held in high regard in NFL circles. If the kid gets Deion's blessing that he's NFL-ready, some team would bite. This one will be interesting to keep an eye on... Easier competition means a lower probability of a 5* flop and better chance of making it to the draft healthy. But will the nfl punish him and lower their ratings of him due to the lower competition level?
247 has Reed and Weatley as CB on their Matrix. They also don't have Brown listed at all, not that it matters. So they actually have only 4 safties for 2022 on their Matrix. Of course one or more of the CB/LB can be converted. Also RLR has Flowers as a Safety.Nope. Reed was recruited as a Safety and played a good bit at Safety this season, especially the last few games, so that is 6, a true 3 deep.
And Wheatley was reportedly recruited as a Safety, but practiced his true freshman season at CB due to reportedly excellent coverage skills and could go back to Safety if needed.
Lytton has also reportedly played Safety in the past.
So that's possibly 7 or 8, and if there was a need a CB could be moved instead of Lytton.
Plenty of Safety's barring significant injuries. And really plenty of experienced Safety's with Brown as a returning starter, Ellis being a very experienced DB, and Reed getting PT and looking good as a true freshman, Lytton being an experienced DB and looking like a headhunter on special teams in 2021, and the addition of the JC Safety Mills. There are other positions, such as DE where it takes 4-5 DE's to get through games fresh and the OL, with less experience and more to worry about. But Franklin will look at all possibilities and positions in the Portal if he believes he can improve the team with a player that fits at PSU.
Grazie Signore
Yep, the FOS scholarship matrix does well on the numbers but has obvious errors in positions. There are going to be years that both Safety's move on, especially if they are very good Safety's. Even if Brown moves on, which doesn't seem probable due to how well Brisker improved his NFL stock by coming back, the numbers in the secondary look good partly due to the staff bringing in the transfers Dixon and Lytton who should both return for 2022. And from what I saw and the opinions of others, Reed looks like he going to be a very good Safety sooner than later. Ellis seems to have settled in at Safety as well. I guess we'll get an idea of what Franklin thinks of the Safety roster by how hard he pursues a transfer Safety.247 has Reed and Weatley as CB on their Matrix. If Brown leaves, there's not much experience at all in that room and it might be smart to grab a safety with big boy experience in the portal.
A nice list of EE's that include a good many that could contribute - the RB's, WRs, OL particularly Nelson.Early enrollees include Allar, Pribula, Singleton, Saunders, Shelton, Allen, Cross, Miller, Durant, Nelson, and Evans.
You're not wrong but I doubt the millions of dollars came from Jackson State alumni.
EDIT: Deon Sanders works for Barstool.
let this happen to them again you are sadly mistaken...
What's even more troublesome is Barstool has a gambling arm.. I think this is great. But, I don't like the optics here - Sanders goes on Barstool Sports (and works for/with them) and announces something big for Signing Day. Barstool had to be in on it, right?
How do you prevent it?
Between coaches leaving lifetime, stay put jobs, a kid's reclassification for NIL that enrolled him one year early only for him to transfer 3 months later, and now the consensus #1 recruit going to a small school for NIL... it's a free for all.
Some compare this to NFL free agency, but college now has very little structure.
Jerry McGuire: "show me the money."
What I mean is Bama will say - ‘how much are they paying you; we’ll double it.’ I agree iou can’t stop it but damn there should be some rules about conflict of interest and more transparency.
They're already RBF (Ruined By Franklin). Pfft...lead with love.Four hours and they‘ve contributed nothing to PSU on the field. Pfft.
RBF needs to be added to the vocabulary here. They're already RBF (Ruined By Franklin). Pfft...lead with love.
I think that you are right. Except perhaps for a QB, the NFL is all about what cannot be taught. There are actually rumors that a certain LB, who cannot tackle, may be a high draft pick. That speaks volumes.NFL will not punish him. If he's worthy, somebody drafts him regardless. Bigger issue is he's probably gotta dominate from day 1. Any struggles and he will fall hard.
I guess we'll get an idea of what Franklin thinks of the Safety roster by how hard he pursues a transfer Safety.
Because NIL deals can not be incentive based. In theory, what is stopping a school from signing every kid to some NIL deal worth a million if (big IF) you become a starter, throw 30 TDs, pass for 3500 yards...?
Yeah, maybe 3-4 might accomplish these lofty goals, but it's about the ability.
It's crazy that the #1 recruit can ink a deal on par or better than the starting QB at Bama, the most high profile position of the past 5 years, at a school whose games are unwatchable without a cable/satellite/streaming upgrade package.
I think it has to do with their docu series they have about Deion and Jackson State (which is probably their best produced content to date). JMO. Also probably trying to grow their college football show and pro football shows.I don't see a benefit to Barstool based on which team the kid plays for.
Because NIL deals can not be incentive based.
The old message board rumors, ah yes. Did you see the NIL contract Ewers signed? There’s really no question. No incentive based NIL deals.I thought it was shared here that Ewers autograph NIL deal required him to start 8 games by the end of '22?
Lots of questions.
Who set this requirement of no incentive based deals? I’m assuming the NCAA?The old message board rumors, ah yes. Did you see the NIL contract Ewers signed? There’s really no question. No incentive based NIL deals.
Yes,the NCAA.Who set this requirement of no incentive based deals? I’m assuming the NCAA?
