Sipple Changing His Tune

"Apathy should be a major concern for Nebraska officials right now. That’s my read, and it’s not necessarily a bold take.
That said, the preponderance of Husker football fans are passionate and reasonable. They expend ample money, time and energy following the program. They shouldn’t be stifled at all if they want to voice a level of criticism. Nor should Peter or any other former player, as long as it’s reasonable dialogue.
So, let the attacks on them and yours truly begin. LOL."

He built his cred before the days of social media. It used to be you had to pick up the OWH or LHS to get any Husker news at all. It was a biased source but at least we got something.
And to add to this, wether or not people like Sipple or Callahan’s content they are the most plugged in to the program than pretty much any other journalists.

I know it’s cool to hate on Callahan and Sipple. Fielding punts aside, I enjoy listening to their content and it does seem like they are not rainbows and unicorns surrounding the program. Are they a little a more optimistic than NBNR - for sure.

I don't blame them for taking the approach they do, it makes sense. It probably makes their job easier to do it that way. Once you go "anti" NU it is tough to get out of that hole. Who was that one radio guy that tried there here in Omaha, Matt Perrault?

I also assume that they have some pretty good connections.

Sipple has been known to be a mouthpiece for the program for decades. However, he is spot on now. I think he does try to be objective, at least as far as where we are at now. For the first three years I think he was trying to figure out if we really were heading the right direction. There were little signs that told you ( or him ) that things MIGHT be headed the right way. However when you look back at the way our last two seasons imploded, and look as some of the dumb arse ways we have found to lose games we could very well have won, reality sets in. His take is the sum total of a lot of things that by themselves, probably are not alarming, but taken altogether show that this program as it exists now is mediocre at best. Eckler leaving after turning a disaster ST unit into a top 10 unit is a primary example of one step forward two steps back. It is time to be honest and up front. 19-19 will not ever be "ok" at NU under any circumstance. He did make one valid point a few years ago, that being "Matt could have sat back and just collected the 40 million Carolina owed him rather than come here and take on a rebuild". And I do give Matt credit for that. The LJS is connected at the hip to the program, so yes Sipp does have to be somewhat diplomatic in his takes.

I haven’t read any of it but is it really different from the ‘no more hype’ sentiment most of us on this board already have? We want results and we want it now.

ALL of the local radio, print and podcast guys literally read the message boards to pick their daily topics. It’s kind of hilarious to watch.
Hell, they even post here to push some ideas or gain insight on what we are thinking. It makes sense too, they literally get to pick and choose the content that they know we are interested in discussing.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out in the media (print and radio)

What they don't want is a 6-7 win season. That creates such little drama for them.

4-5 wins: They know they are going to talk all off-season about the "hot seat"
3 wins or less: They know it will be a firing and coaching search. That is a big draw and they love it.

8-9 wins: Pretty much all positive talk

10 wins: Super positive talk while also bitching about either not making the playoffs or the draw they got in the playoffs.

I am guessing we are looking at 5 or less wins.

I genuinely believe that Rhule thought he was going to be hired by PSU and the look on his face since is resignation to his fate. I still believe their AD planned to hire Rhule until that Minnesota loss made it impossible. Rhule had his extension on his desk before Mn. Didn’t sign it until the week after the loss. Dannen should have revoked the offer that Saturday night.

This take seems reasonable.

One more reason to dislike Sweater Vest, but I'd take him any day and every day over Rhule.

Then blamed it on his wife not wanting to move again, and loving Lincoln. Lol, like Rhule would turn down PSU because of his wife's new shop. He didn't even live with her for like half a year when he started in Lincoln. There are going to be some epic audio clips from him this season when the wheels fall off. Never hire a coach who was hated by his previous stop.

Sipple got the company talking points and immediately retreated, at least Rittenberg called him out.

Right?

MAYBE, MAYBE, OSU and Oregon are paying a lot more...That is about it.

I know Cuban gives a lot to Indiana but they had no one on that team that other schools were really after.

Rhule and company are now doing a great job of pretending like NU is broke and just can't compete with other schools.

All the woes come down to lines. Iowa wins 8-9 games just by prioritizing lines and ST.

We were thoroughly tricked into believing Rhule cared about OL and DL play.

I'm not convinced he could even be an effective coordinator at a P4 school.

This is my biggest frustration with Rhule. Complain about the Ohio States when you are losing by 10 or less points after a hard fought battle. AFTER beating Mich St, IL, Iowa, MN. Stop being an NIL whiny ***** and make it work for the dollars you have. Spending 20% of our budget on Princess Raiola obviously didn’t work so figure it out. Oh and make good hires out of the gates and stop renting coaches for a year - bring a level of stability. “Oh it’s a good sign people want our coaches” - for promotions! They are taking lateral moves or have no other offers just to get away.

All this makes me want to put on my flannel and Birkenstocks and hit the road in my Subaru.

Rhule acts like there are only 6 DT's out there each year and there is no way that NU could ever find a DT.

Or a WR or TE.

Do other coaches whine this much? Maybe they do and I just don't notice because I don't pay attention to other teams.

I disagree with that. Look...iowa and illinois an minny and NU, they are all garbage teams and they are all the same exact team.

You don't need to "catch them" because they are them. Indiana showed there is no "catching" teams...you just go get better.
If we continuously lose to said teams , doesn't that mean we are behind them?

we are ahead of Purdue and Rutgers basically.

No...they are all the same team.

You are either making the playoffs or in contention to make the playoffs after 10 games...or you are a dorky team.
