I find it humorous that a guy within that thread is asking for someone to send him college students to "hire"... the guy's email address? [email protected]

Yes....My Crotch

Im willing to give usm fans the benefit of the doubt that these message board heros dont speak for the masses, at least I hope so. Im sure that at some point in time an msu fan has supported a business owned by an alum of another school. on the other hand, lets go burn down Abners, they must be behind us only having a 55K seat stadium.

I can believe that there are more State fans here in Hattiesburg than there are USM fans. Actually, I think I'll go by there sometime this weekend.

Sweet Peppers will not suffer at all because of this silly "boycott".

voted down was because of the black preacher, kenneth fairley who has dodged the law on several occasions, organized the black community to vote against it. His argument was that some of the money raised should go to fund projects that benefit his constituents as well as usm athletic facilities. As I have said before, usm fans blame their situation on the bulldogs and rebels. They are like the PLO. I fully expect one of them to set off a car bomb outside Scott Field some day. Or maybe Sweet Peppers deli.

I remember when their Golden Eagle died in his cage several years ago they immediately blamed "a State fan" for shooting the bird with a bb gun. Of course it turned out that they didn't feed the damn thing right and it died of malnutrition.

That seems to be a microcosm of a lot of their fan base- it's always State or Ole Miss that's the problem and what's holding them back, not them.

I guess it's easier to blame your problems on other people.

that they may have 10 less customers per week. And what are the odds that all 10 of them would be in Hattiesburg at the same time with no game?

Funny, HD, after the "boycott" a few year ago, Sweet Peppers opened up another location on Lincoln Road in H'burg. It's mind boggling. I see Mutt made it over there. That's like playing chess with tards on that board.

Edit- sorry, meant to go under HD's comment. I am a tard on the reply feature of this board.

Let THEM do it, not tax a bunch of businesses.
Amen to that. The sales tax in restaurants in Hattiesburg is nearly 10% now. Plus, Giannini got the expansion, which is first class all the way, done without the tax increase.

with iron pellets, apparently. They tried to feed him, but he wouldn't eat. There was some debate over when he was shot -- before he was captured or while on campus. However, you'd think they'd been able to figure out what happened BEFORE he died, not after. Hell, one of our Bullies got run over by a bus.

Unsolicited advice (that she will never read) to the woman who had the "riot act" read to her for eating at Sweet Peppers. Leave him. You don't have to put up with that **** from any man.

you did not understand what we were talking about. If you put all the Ole Miss and State fans that live in Hattiesburg together then its more. There is alot of people in Hattiesburg but not many of them claim Southern as "their team". I would know because I am from there and lived there for 21 years. There are Mississippi State and Mississippi fans everywhere.

I've lived in Hattiesburg for most of my life. People here are not passionate about USM. State fans and umiss fans are everywhere.

I currently live in the Hattiesburg area. On my street, of those who follow college sports, there are two MSU households, 1 USM household, 1 Florida Household, and 2 Ole Miss households.

The company I work for hires a lot of college graduates out of USM. The vast majority of them couldn't care less about USM sports.

There are more USM fans.

And most of the MSU and UMiss "fans" you're talking about might wear an MSU or OM shirt or hat but a lot of them have probably been to Starville or Oxford three times in their lives.

Who by the way are some of the worst fans in the south. USM is the dictionary definition of a suitcase college.

that Clark and his wife moved from Starkville, where they grew up, and opened the deli after she retired from MSU. Clark is also a former employee of MSU.

Or, maybe people are just <17>ing tired of seeing one more damn tax that they know will never go away.

That's actually changing. There's a boatload of student apartment housing that's gone up in recent years in the vicinity of school. (One of the largest is about to open behind Mugshot's.) They're revamping the on-campus housing and are about to build a freshman dorm quad and gradually replace all the old POS dorms on campus.

The students now tend to stay around more. They also attend football games (but not basketball or baseball) much more than in the past. Usually, the student section is pretty packed now. Used to be, many did go home, but less now.

i think what people are pissed about really and truly when you get down to it is that when you go into the sweet peppers deli, at least the one on hardy street there across from Lowe's, is that there is southern miss stuff, schedules, posters, flags and signs all over the place, yet they are(the manager and company) not a southern miss club member and Clark was the top proponent of setting up all the businesses around town to vote NO on the bond issue. the same thing goes for the crooked mayor and the so -called "revered". they want money for the people (in da hood) that are going to vote for them and that's all they care about. power. they have no vested interest in the university or its consituents. but they sure do love that money they get from the university and all its revenue.

people in general hate hypocrites. all of you on here know that if there was a restaurant in starkville that had MSU signs all over the place and got good business from the college faithful there, the alumni and local businesses, yet didnt care to become a club member or give anything back to the university then people there would ask questions, write the newspaper, yell and holler and be pissed just as well, and rightly so. you know it's true and if you deny that then you are being intellectually dishonest.

if you dont want to support a university then ok, people can eat somewhere else or they can still eat there but dont pretend to, in this case, "appear" to be all that about USM yet you don't contribute back anything into the university. people feel used and abused when you do that and Clark overabused just a little.

the tax was a 1% tax . in sweet peppers case you would have to spend $100 to have a $1 tax on things which no one ever spends that much there nor many would ever notice. Funny thing is is that $12 Million could have BEEN raised post katrina in about 6 months or less with the hotels packed like sardines and the restaurants full for months to come. it wasnt a forever tax. it was until the $12 million had been reached. other universities all over the country big and small have passed bond issues, not just in Mississippi, its not a new thing.

I can honestly say that I don't have any idea whether any of the restaurant owners in Starkville belong to the Bulldog Club. I know I ate plenty of Abners while there, and that guys a big Rebel. I tend to eat at places because I like their food and without concern for which athletic program the owner supports. And that's completely intellectually honest.

I agree with Faust... I don't give a rip what team the owner supports, because if it's good, I'll eat there. First example, I'm a state fan and a former USM student... I can't stand the USM athletic program, and I will never give one red cent to them, but by gosh, I'll eat at the Powerhouse and any other restaurant in town that has good food. Like he said, I eat at Abners all the dang time when I'm in the northern half of Mississippi, and he is full blooded Rebel.

Secondly, the USM stuff adorning the walls of Peppers is simply good business. It takes a staple of the city and makes it a part of the restaurant.
