Amen to that. The sales tax in restaurants in Hattiesburg is nearly 10% now. Plus, Giannini got the expansion, which is first class all the way, done without the tax increase.Mutt the Hoople said:Let THEM do it, not tax a bunch of businesses.
I remember when their Golden Eagle died in his cage several years ago they immediately blamed "a State fan" for shooting the bird with a bb gun.

you did not understand what we were talking about. If you put all the Ole Miss and State fans that live in Hattiesburg together then its more. There is alot of people in Hattiesburg but not many of them claim Southern as "their team". I would know because I am from there and lived there for 21 years. There are Mississippi State and Mississippi fans everywhere.

I can honestly say that I don't have any idea whether any of the restaurant owners in Starkville belong to the Bulldog Club. I know I ate plenty of Abners while there, and that guys a big Rebel. I tend to eat at places because I like their food and without concern for which athletic program the owner supports. And that's completely intellectually honest.people in general hate hypocrites. all of you on here know that if there was a restaurant in starkville that had MSU signs all over the place and got good business from the college faithful there, the alumni and local businesses, yet didnt care to become a club member or give anything back to the university then people there would ask questions, write the newspaper, yell and holler and be pissed just as well, and rightly so. you know it's true and if you deny that then you are being intellectually dishonest.
usmsci said:i think what people are pissed about really and truly when you get down to it is that when you go into the sweet peppers deli, at least the one on hardy street there across from Lowe's, is that there is southern miss stuff, schedules, posters, flags and signs all over the place, yet they are(the manager and company) not a southern miss club member and Clark was the top proponent of setting up all the businesses around town to vote NO on the bond issue. the same thing goes for the crooked mayor and the so -called "revered". they want money for the people (in da hood) that are going to vote for them and that's all they care about. power. they have no vested interest in the university or its consituents. but they sure do love that money they get from the university and all its revenue.

if you dont want to support a university then ok, people can eat somewhere else or they can still eat there but dont pretend to, in this case, "appear" to be all that about USM yet you don't contribute back anything into the university. people feel used and abused when you do that and Clark overabused just a little.
the tax was a 1% tax . in sweet peppers case you would have to spend $100 to have a $1 tax on things which no one ever spends that much there nor many would ever notice. Funny thing is is that $12 Million could have BEEN raised post katrina in about 6 months or less with the hotels packed like sardines and the restaurants full for months to come. it wasnt a forever tax. it was until the $12 million had been reached. other universities all over the country big and small have passed bond issues, not just in Mississippi, its not a new thing.
