Is there a good reason for the slow walk back to the line after each play? They started the game up tempo and then began strolling back to the line after each play. I understand the plays are called based on what the defense shows. I also understand the fatigue factor. However, I've seen other teams get back to the line quickly during the whole game. Why didn't they? At least during the last 5 minutes. Am I the only one who feels this way?

those are the lines that are in the groove and cant wait until the next punch in the mouth to the defense.
There were many weird things during that game. here is a weird one- the officials refused to raise their arms on our last two TD's. it was strange and no one knew what was happening

There are two ways to look at offense. One is you impose your will on the defense. And then there's the one we run. You get the play in in plenty of time, walk to the LOS, everybody gets set, then the QB looks to the sideline to see if the play is changing. It's boring and slow. Nothing makes me madder than to see the whole slow process play out only to call a timeout or take a delay of game. It looked like we have some tempo plays on against Ga St. It looked like we were just reacting to Ark. In my opinion, if you're always reacting to the defense, you're well on your way to losing. HBC had a way of calling the correct play for every situation. He's not here anymore.

My memory is fuzzy, but I don't remember it being this way 20 or 30 years ago. It feels relatively recent (in the big picture) that everyone kind of stands around and looks to the sideline for the play. Seems like it used to be, run the play, look to the sideline, line up and run the next play. Now it's as you describe.

I recall HBC taking delays or calling timeouts just to get the perfect play in. In fact, I remember us taking a delay of game on opening Thursday night against NC St. The very first play by us was a penalty. But HBC had a photographic memory collected over a very long time of calling offenses.
