Wow, some of you are so emotionally weak that you continue to let some arbitrary ranking bother you. Guess what, we're in the Rose Bowl. Rankings don't mean crap anymore!! But at least there's entertainment value in seeing who the whiners are.
Call it what you want...nobody is whining about the Rose Bowl...just pointing out inconsistencies that will certainly matter as the playoffs expand...also, based on these rankings "adjustments" SouthCarolion has a point below...
If Penn State had managed to beat either UM or OSU, they would be the first 1 loss team overlooked for a 2 loss team.

"Quality wins, quality wins, quality wins"...Penn State didn't get absolutely EMBARRASSED by a then unranked South Carolina like Tennessee did and PSU's only 2 losses are against playoff teams... 🤷‍♂️

The fact that PSU plays Utah lessens the impact of the joke that a 3 loss team moved ahead of PSU. Kansas State being ahead at 3 losses is an absurdity. Nobody is whining about the Rose Bowl. We are upset with the manufactured falsely portrayed national perception of the team. 🤷‍♂️

Even if you say "conference champions", clearly not all conferences are created equal. Also, if two 3 loss conference champions are above 2 loss PSU then why isn't conference champion Clemson with 2 losses in over 1 loss non-champs TCU and OSU? It is the same exact same principle: one less loss for the non-champs (despite the significantly lower stakes for PSU versus the Clemson comparison). For the record I don't think Clemson should be in the playoffs and no 2 loss team ever has (including our PSU conference champs), but similarly neither should 3-loss Utah and KSU have jumped PSU...disrespectfully inconsistent.

One more rant: many have repeated that a losing team such as TCU "shouldn't be penalized" for losing a conference championship game. Agree that they should not fall below another team in their own conference that failed to reach the championship. For example if Michigan got upset by Purdue, Michigan still shouldn't have fallen below OSU. But that loss absolutely should factor into comparison with other conferences! Just like OSU, TCU did NOT win its conference. Or was MI / OSU just artificially avoided, which would be even more ridiculous? This is another case in which the rankings DO matter and as a result Michigan arguably (and inexplicably) has an easier path to the championship game (TCU) than Georgia does (OSU) even though Georgia earned #1. o_O  🤷‍♂️

Thank you for your time. Rant over. ;););)

Utah looks to me like a team that will rip the Penn State defense to shreds in the 4th quarter, throwing can't-miss darts to open receivers, with the QB putting together drives of 5-for-5 passing, and shredding the defense like Luwerke (twice!), Darnold, Barrett, and Stroud, all of whom looked like Heisman winners against the Penn State defense. Cam Rising, you're next!
The same Utah team that shredded Florida for 26, Washington State for 21 and Oregon for 17?

As for the game, I'd give one simple piece of advice -- COVER THE TIGHT ENDS!!! Given PSU's tendency to allow chunks in the middle of the field and for the LB's and safeties to be lacking in coverage, it'll be a big key to look for. Vegas line seems right and this will be a good measuring stick game to cap off the season.
I thought the same thing after recalling this play on Friday night....

I’d say that 2016 was a better year, but, yeah, I’ve really taken a shine to this year’s team.
Agree. I doubt I'll see another magical season like 2016. No team in history has or ever will again, give the middle finger to the NCAA, The Big Ten and it's very own "beloved" trustees (who made a concerted effort to destroy PSU Football). Jim Delany still wants to regurgitate when he recalls handing the trophy to CJF in Indy.
But anyone here who tells you they had this team 10-2 and going to the Rose Bowl is a liar,

This was easy for me. I would definitely want to smell roses vs smelling the Utah team.

Could be right. Utah's physical presence is like Michigan on the lines. To keep this game competitive, Clifford cannot have another OSU type game and the PSU offense needs to have some time consuming drives to preserve the defense.

I think UTAH has improved considerably. That is not the same team that started the year. Likewise, Penn State has improved this year. I expect a competitive back and forth games. Concerned about opt outs for PSU, chronic difficulty of PSU's inability to cover the middle and the ability of UTAH to wear teams down. If Clifford's mistakes pile up via OSU game it will get ugly.

I think it's an interesting matchup. The way the Big 10 played out, it's hard to say how we compare. Utah probably is closer to being 12-1 than it looks. The Florida loss is a bad one, but it might as well have been last year.

Looks like a race to 30 type of game. I don't think they can score 40 on us unless SC turns it over 3+ times. Their QB has a similar nature. He's going to have 3 TOs or none.

This isn't a game I want us to sleepwalk the first quarter. Opt outs could be very important.

My biggest concern about the Rose Bowl:

The game is less than four weeks away. Is that enough time for us to build up Utah as a Super Bowl champion and convince ourselves that we have no chance of winning?
Utah qb reminds me of 9, but with flow

Both Utah fronts worry me. Especially their OL.

I just think it's good for PSU to be making this trip since I'm guessing the B1G will be sending them back to LA to start the season in 2024.

UCLA and Florida SHREDDED Utah on the ground. Unless the Utes have an extensive HGH program they just got started mid-way through the year, their line didn't suddenly hulk out. Look to the opposition.

Please explain how you can logically compare this year's D under Diaz with previous defenses under Pry's direction?

I was there. Adding to the chorus of boos was quite satisfying.

opt outs for sure could play a role. Not sure how many Utah might have. They have several seniors.
