He should be happy he got the invite. Not only is he getting a raise, but no one will be able to say **** to him for years.

I thought that as well.

But let's play this out another way......suppose he did not have the invite. But everyone else was invited. And they had their party and posted the photos on their company website/social media accounts, for all the world to see. That could have been much more damaging.

As it is now, I don't believe the guy posted the name or location of the company. Which is a good thing for them. But, I am sure with some sleuthing, the twitterartti or the social media mafia will be able to figure it out. Heck, they rented a former plantatiion, so whatever business owns the property knows who they are.

I.jest above, but he was put in a no win situation. If he goes to HR or his manager ahead of time he risks being labeled a complainer. What could he do, ask for more clarification on what specific period of time they wanted? I suppose he could have picked a different part of the country, or just faked it. The guy has a sense of humor, hopefully it continues to work out for him.

Starbucks used to have themed events and team building exercises that were off the wall all the time and people always landed in trouble. Then when they were in trouble hr was like, you are a bad person. Well if you didn’t have a themed event they wouldn’t have landed in hot water. I never understood that.

He was in a no win situation - you are correct. And the HR person (if you read the article) put herself in a "no think" situation.

But, the dude handled the event like Picasso painting a picture or Beethoven writing his Ninth Symphony. Dude was Masterclass.
