So they were previewing the Tennessee versus Georgia game. They were talking about Georgia’s defense and how well they communicate.

Low and behold they were showing film from our game with Georgia and breaking down the communication. They showed several plays where the Georgia lineman were tapping the ground to indicate to their linebackers that it was going to be a run play which it was. The next showed communication with the linebackers and defensive backs pointing up in the air meaning it was going to be a pass. Which it was. They call rabbit and point to the ground for run, and call bird and point to sky for pass.

The whole point is we were in the third game of the season and the opposing Defense knew exactly what we were going to run every single time. That is just crap offensive strategy. Not to mention we as fans know what we are going to run every single time. There is no scheme no motion no deception no variety….just flat out 90% predictability. Shane cannot keep Satterfield.

anyone that’s ever played football knows it’s the small things you must do the exact same every play. Evidently our lineman are tipping off what’s coming or maybe the qb or a back.

My high school coaches were brilliant. They made sure everyone was in the same stance looking straight ahead on every play. You never knew if it was a run or a pass. Those coaches knew to instill that after they lost the upper state championship with a superior team. Reason they lost is because the other team picked up on film our fullback cheated slightly right or left depending on which way the play was going. It was subtle, but evident enough to tip the play off. SC must be doing the exact stuff to tip plays.

You could see their defensive end signal his teammates with an uplifted arm just before the snap when he picked up what we were going to do. Saw it several times.
Saw that also. Announcers were talking about it. Unreal

If Satt is let go, I say Beamer & co. try and hire Garrett Riley, Lincoln’s brother. He’s produced a good offense at SMU the two years he was there, and at TCU his offense is ranked fourth in the nation in total offense. Add on the fact that he’s still a young, up and coming coordinator and it could work out in the long run of things.

Had two Vol fans at different points in the day randomly say they hate our OC.

And we have been hearing this for years. It happened under Lou too. It really makes me wonder sometimes.

Yeah but our AD and most fans demanded we hire a coaching staff “with that SEC experience” and not someone who didnt.

I wouldn’t leave TCU for USC. A step down

I call bulls**t on this. I just went back and watched several drives of the Georgia game. Plenty of times those signals were wrong. Pointed to the sky, and it was run. It was a pass, and no point to the sky. And plenty of times it was obvious. 3 and 14th = bird in the sky. No s**t sherlock. Just some talking heads cherry picking a few examples to try and make themselves look smart. And run or pass isn't "exactly what we are going to run". A little more complicated than that.

Georgia beat us because their Dline destroyed our Oline and because they have one of the top 2 most talented teams in college football.

I have a question for you, and I don’t mean it as a jab. I am truly interested.

I have seen you defend this offense over and over. What do you see that you believe has us trending in the right direction?

Thanks for that. I've stated before, I'd like to see more progress this year, but I think we have seen progress. Here's how I see it.

The 3 cupcakes: Last year we blew one out the first game and struggled with the latter two. This year, we struggled with one the first game and then blew out the other two. None of the games this year were in doubt. I consider that at least some progress.

Arkansas: It think the offense had a decent game and did enough for us to win. Not going to win many games giving up 44 points.

Georgia: About the same and about what I expected. They are just on a different level. Not a good measuring stick for anything.

Kentucky: I think the offense was much better this year. Kentucky's D is better this year, and we scored 24 vs 10 last year and we won.

TAMU: No doubt there was improvement over the disaster from last year. And we won. For the first time ever against TAMU.

Mizzou: This is the only game I see a setback, even though Mizzou defense is much improved over last year. Playcalling could have been better. Execution could have been better. Bad game all around.

So, despite the last game, I still see progress. Long way to go, but I think we should give it time, while others want an immediate change, and have since the first half of last year. That's where most of my "defense" comes in. I think you have to give coaches time to get their players in and develop their system, especially when they start out with a disaster. It took many years for Spurrier to get it going here. Swapping out OCs every couple of years obviously haven't work for us in the past. Mizzou was bad, but not the end of the world. Spurrier had worse offensive games. Expectations have to be reasonable.

Early in the season and even last….I defended the play calling and it was bad execution by the players ( dropped passes, whiffed blocks, procedure, holding, etc.). I also thought he called some good plays against Arkansas. But overall the announcers aren’t wrong because in football if you can guess right 75% of the time you’re going to win. Something is predictable to all these teams or either with the worst offense in the country. So now I am strongly behind let’s support this team hopefully we get a few more wins but we have to make an offensive change. And trust me I am not a fire someone person at the drop of a hat.

Good post, and a lot will agree. Some will go down swinging in defense of Satterfield just due the inability to admit to being wrong.

Last season we were told, by the Satterfield supporters, that all the offense needed was a QB.....just a good QB away from the offense being a well-oiled machine. Enter a former 5 star and Heisman candidate QB. We were 109th in the nation in Total Offense last season. We are 99th this season, thus far. I grant that UGA, Kentucky and Missouri have excellent defenses. But who can argue against the fact that Arkansas, Charlotte, Ga. State and SC State have horrendous defenses? Texas A&M has an average defense, at best. Tonight's opponent, Vanderbilt, and Florida both have horrendous defenses. Tennessee's is poor. So, we should improve that 99th Total Offense ranking by the end of the season. Our passing game tonight should be excellent and put on a show, as Vandy's Pass Defense is ranked 130th out of 131 teams.

We better take care of business tonight if we want to go bowling. UF took out Texas A&M on the road. And we have to go down to the Swamp this year. That's not to say the season is over if Vandy upsets us tonight. Regardless, as I said, better take care of business tonight.
