I laughed when I read these tweets...

Spoke to a former SEC assistant on the Saban-Jimbo blowup in It Just Means More land: "There has ALWAYS been an “honor amongst thieves” mantra in the league and those two just called each other’s wives fat to a global audience."— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) May 19, 2022

Yes, when elite teams play elite teams and when mediocre teams play mediocre teams you often get entertaining games. The others usually not so much. My only original response was about you saying college football never having competitive balance anyway, which I agree with to a point but what we are about to see is going to be way worse than anything we've ever seen before. I never said anything about anyone telling their child not to take the money if its there.

Jimbo’s press conference is a heater.

“You coach with guys like Bobby Bowden to learn how to do things. You coach with people like Nick Saban to learn how NOT to do things”.

That about sums it all up.

I'm just sitting here watching all of this speculating when the budget for both programs in the college football championship will total 8 figures collectively. Won't be long.

No collegiate program, has MORE insurmountable advantages, than the ones created through the winning, via 3/4 century of football player compensation, at the University of Alabama.

Everything else they have built, and have been able to manipulate, came on top of that.

Saban, through great effort and savvy, has taken full advantage of these advantages.

Have lit the world on fire tonight

Said very explicitly that aTm bought everyone of their players with NIL in this last recruiting class.

We all knew it. And we’ve all said it. But Nick Saban said it. In public. Wow.

Sour Grapes from the biggest hypocrite in USA! He's been using boosters to do the same for year and finally got outbid. He knows his days are numbered if he doesn't get the best talent.

Nil > Bama's "network" so the man who would sell his very soul to gain even the slightest advantage over his competition is crying...forgive me if I don't feel his pain.
He's not wrong, but I do agree with you 100%. Bama had the patent on the old system. They are no longer top dog. While I do agree that they pay recruits like everybody else, they don't do it to the level of a NIL-equipped Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, USC can, so they are threatened. IF unfettered pay for play is allowed to continue (and I don't think it will), then the haves are going to shift, and small-to-mid size colleges in poorer states are going to have to adjust. Bama will not be able to simply rely on out-recruiting everyone else and playing fundamental football.

This is one adaptation that Saban won't be able to make, to the extent needed to be the top dawg.

HOWEVER -

All these kids with their hands out, will not make the best teammates. So to me, that's the dynamic to watch - the hardworking blue-collar non-NIL teams of the world (Alabama and Auburn, I guess are examples) vs. the bling-blinging instagram porsche driving primadonnas at Texas and Miami.

There's a lot less competitive balance today than there used to be.

Link

This is accurate. We are winning 6-8 games per year, but we’re 10x further behind Alabama than we were in the late 80’s when we were 1-10 and they were still building national title teams.

College football flat out blows as a product now. All there is to it.

That wasn't the key to his statement. What blew me away is him saying they didn't buy one single player....now that's rich. The very one who has been paying players FOR YEARS has the gall to say this and call someone else out??

Don't blame judges for stripping the NCAA of some of its authority. The NCAA was so corrupt that even the Supreme Court crushed them because of exposure set forth within trials leading up to their decision. Now the NCAA has started a business relationship with Las Vegas? Get ready for a blitzkrieg of casinos in the NIL? What is going to happen when Vegas NIL competes with college in house slush funds NIL compete against each other? Do you think any court will turn the other eye, on this issue, in future litigation?

The courts 100% created this mess.

He ain't lying. He and Alabama haven't paid players. The booster network that he set up when he got there took care of that. Alabama is the most corrupt program in college football history and has been since Bear Bryant was there.

Actually according to the letter of the rule it's not legal. The problem is the rule is absolutely unenforceable. This is not the NCAA's fault. It's judges and people who want to bring down college sport's fault. That is exactly what is happening. This stuff is going to destroy college athletics.

I was wondering about that. I haven’t read the rule, so I’d be just like everyone saying it’s legal, what’s the problem, if I commented on it. It’s easy to say what they did was legal without even knowing exactly what they did. What we’re slowly finding out is NOTHING is as it seems in our society right now. But I do agree it’s gonna get the blame for destroying college athletics, but I have my doubts wether it will be or not. One things for sure were getting very close to a complete shake up in sports. As the world is creating a level playing field for everyone of us, sports will not be left out of the equation. I may need to go look at what Texas passed concerning the NIL, and one things for certain we will not know what role Jimbo or the school played into it all. Nick isn’t a prime source I care to get my facts from either though. As I read in this thread he was the first to tell the world, and future recruits, his quarterback got a free million dollars….

Look at when Bryant Jr bank was founded and when Saban was hired. What a coincidence.

I'm not pissed at A&M because they're kind of within the rules, but the rules can't be what we currently have. College football can't sustain this & it ruins the sport.

FWIW, what Saban has been doing for 15 years has ruined the sport as well. The sport needs real rules that promote some level of parity & stop putting coaches into positions where they have to cheat to keep their job

over the years, as many of our boards as I’ve read on n off, I can finally say I agree with you. 😂 I’d add something though to, “the sport needs real rules that promote some level of parity…” I agree, but I’d add the sport needs real rules that promote the STUDENT-athlete and parity in the game….. The more that changes is leading us somewhere, and I think it’s the same place all the “wokeness” in pro sports and nascar is leading us to, but that’s just me…

He's only saying it because he probably has won his last and final championship. Due to schools paying more than Bama will. The only thing Nick hates with all his soul is losing and a level playing field. He had no problem when all the 5 stars he wanted chose Bama based on their unofficial and official compensation package. The advantage he meticulously created is over. Sadly this will most likely expose his coaching legacy of winning championships only because they bought the best players.

Also he hates that Jimbo and Kirby beat him last season. He had the mental advantage for years. It's obviously been eating at him seeing better players go to both aTm and Georgia.

Id like to hear Jolly ole Nick “God” Saban thoughts on hiring our running backs coach for a running back recruit we had, and a d-line coach for a couple d-line players if I’m remembering correctly. Haha, ole Nick plays the bend and break the rules recruiting philosophy if it helps his team and/or hurts his competition.

This puts more pressure on Jimbo. If you can't win the SEC with NFL pay roll you need to go.*****

The courts 100% created this mess.

'The courts' didnt create anything. 'The courts' simply heard facts and ruled based on laws.

How dare those courts do what they were set up to do! Laws created this, to be clear.

Good. I’m glad laws created this mess as they have many messes, as well as courts, because there’s this thing coming to fix these issues, commonly. It was signed on July 4, 2020.

Anybody else see the irony here? Or is it possible there is actually a liberal who understands courts are meant to rule based on laws and the Constitution, not create them?

The athletic director of Texas A&M, none other than Ole Miss's Ross Bjork, has called for Saban to be disciplined.

I don't know. I'm not sure it's a fair to say the law prohibits amateur athletics (if you're referring to the Supreme Ct case). State laws have recently been passed that create a lot of problems.

The courts 100% created this mess.

And the NCAA did not create this mess? Miss St never got justice when Jackie Sherrill was coach here? The NCAA was and is a bastion of corruption and injustice and the courts had no choice but to step in when that misconduct was brought to light and published within the Court transcripts. Remember, the NCAA settled with Jackie when delays were disallowed. Also, the NCAA settled with Todd McNair in the Reggie Bush litigation because delay tactics were dis allowed, just like Jackie? The NCAA refused to sanction a 100% guilty North Carolina in academic fraud yet fu_ked with innocent Mississippi State in the past? With all due respect, please stop giving the NCAA a pass by blaming the Courts 100%?

There is nothing in college football that wasn't already corrupt. The only thing that has changed is that its more in the open.

You can't claim to be a capitalist snd think college athletes shouldn't get a piece of the money that's made on their play. You can't say board and education because they were getting that before all these mega million dollar tv deals and sales. The sport isn't what it used to be because we as the consumer and those that saw Ann opportunity to sell it as a hot commodity made it so. Paying these coaches ungodly salaries. Why? Because they can based on boosters measuring their dicks and fans wants to
Have a team better than the other guys team.

The portal only seems fair when considering any other student can transfer any time. So can coaches.

It's nothing for a school to rip out a scholarship from a kid either. Looking at you Saban.

You mean to tell me Saban hasn't had somoneone paying these kids to gray shirt under him? Get out of here

Well now if we are going to somehow treat college sports like the free market economy then we should shut down all college sports that don't make money. That would pretty much eliminate everything in college athletics except football and men's basketball.
