I am a bit retarded in sharing this happening. My wife and I took in a performance by Richie “LaBamba” Rosenberg and his big band at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ, last Sunday. In case you are not aware, Rosenberg is known for performing in Conan O’Brien’s bands over the years. More on Rosenberg here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richie_Rosenberg.

As noted on Wikipedia, Rosenberg got his start on the eastern shore scene, including at The Stone Pony, years ago. This was my first time seeing him live and also my first time at The Stone Pony. Great venue, though it sucked a bit standing for three hours. Anyway, I love horns, having played trumpet for many years. Great band.

John Cafferty made a guest appearance. He’s up there now, but he’s still got it. Great show. We got our money’s worth.

Anyone here been to The Stone Pony? Who did you see perform?

By the way, we bought a couple Stone Pony coffee mugs. I’m sipping Starbucks Holiday Blend with hazelnut creamer from one now. 😀

I went once to see Rich Robinson, guitarist for the Black Crowes, play with his side band once. Dude was about 5 feet from me. I love his playing and style and his tone was off the hook that night. I definitely learned some tricks watching him play that close up. Open G all night.

A better concert in that town was when Stone Temple Pilots played the Convention Hall out on the beach. That place has the spook.

Always a good time in Asbury Park.

I‘ll have to get back to Asbury Park in the summer. Maybe take in a show at The Stone Pony’s Summer Stage, outside. The weather was awful last Sunday night. Heavy rain.

Years ago.

I saw Southside Johnny and The Jukes. They were having a party. And everybody was singing.

I remember the drive across jersey to see STP was in torrential rain and then it rained all night. Probably for the best since that town resembles Mogadishu in the daylight.

In my early 20s I used to go there every Thursday night (I think it was Thursday) one winter when they would change the name of it to Vinyls. They would turn it into a sort of rave type scene with people getting pierced and tattooed in the place. It was disgusting to see and the crowd was full of some interesting characters to watch. So why did I go every week? Free beer until midnight. When fully focused on just drinking beer, I can put away an ungodly amount. But I never saw a concert there. On the other hand, my brother was there for the Springsteen run of shows where he showed up to play with a local band (Cats, I think) for something like 15 Sundays in ‘82 or ‘83. Pretty phenomenal for him.

Approaching 55 yrs of blissful marriage, we can have a great time providing I don't open my mouth, she keeps hers shut and I don't receive an opinion on my driving.
Step, when my first wife was alive we had a beautiful arrangement to maintain harmony. I was in charge of containing the Soviet Union and the Chinese Communists. She was in charge of everything else. In my defense I got rid of the USSR and I’m still working on the Chinese.

I ran 26.2 miles in Asbury Park in the AP Marathon, winter, 1976 I believe. I was a HS jr. Never had any ambition to go back. BTW… it was in the snow and for the record, 26.2 miles is a loooong fvcking way!
Do what I do and it’s easy. Break it up into two tenths a day segments. Then you have around 130 days to finish. LionJim will you please check the maths.

My PT guy, as he observes my MRI results and notices a degenerated L3-4-5 discs in my back also laughs at the thousands of miles I ran in HS and College!
Ugh, I'm with you man. I turn 57 this year and I've had 3 MRIs and knee and shoulder issues within past 2 years. Mostly from playing tennis. But I'll take that over back issues any day. Good luck.

Saw Bruce play there on random weekday night in the late 80s. Don’t remember much (like why was I even there) other than I was NOT a Bruce fan then and didn’t appreciate what was happening until probably 10 years later. Combination of youth, booze, and growing up in Jersey, I guess.

2 and I saw cake outside next door. We love cake, stood right in front of their trumpeter, but they talked thru the entire show, even gave away a freaking tree in the middle of the set. Organized audience sing offs etc. FFS play some songs. Venue 10 of 10. Live cake 5 of 10
good trumpet shown here

Nice....I play trumpet too. Have a jazz big band gig and a concert wind band. Do you still play? In what capacity?
