So when Shapen went down - I thought it was foregone conclusion he would return...

A lot can change between now and the next transfer portal, but right now it looks like Van Buren is our QB going forward and Shapen is transferring out.

Shapen will just transfer again, but before we let that happen we better be sure Van Buren won’t go out there looking for a bigger check.

Call me crazy, but I would think the bigger threat of someone buying him out from under us would come when he's at the end of his sophomore or junior year. If I'm him I'm going to be tutored under Lebby before I would transfer to another place like Dillon Gabriel did.

I think Van Buren won’t be the issue. It’s going to be some of the receivers that might take the money and run.
Being that there are more of them, there is a higher statistical chance. We seem to have a ton of talent, so I wouldn't be surprised. I'd say you have to keep Craver, no matter what. He can consistently take the top off of the defense. Kevin Coleman is also a man among boys.

I'm anxious to see what Van Buren does against a non-NFL defense over the next few weeks. Shapen's pre-injury numbers weren't exactly bad, and my biggest knock against him returning next year would honestly be his inability to stay healthy

Yeah, I think the potential threat wouldn't be so much this offseason as next offseason.

MVB is really benefiting from the coaching he is getting, on the job training from both an experienced player and an experienced coach. That mixed with his gifted athleticism, he could make major strides quickly.
