I suppose it shouldn't be surprising that the general ills of society are spilling over into college football. Though much of it was illusory, there was a sense in which college football seemed immune to a lot of societal issues and was sort of a haven. It provided an escape. Once fall arrived, you could immerse yourself into college football and at least for a bit all seemed right with the world.
The passage of time does not necessarily equate to progress in all things..

THere are a lot of people who say in front of family and friends "TIll Death Do Us Part". I'm not going to get worked up because some 18 old said the same thing and backtracked.
One thing doesn't justify the other when the first thing is inherently wrong.

I was one of the ones who noted that about Juice, mostly just to say we weren't actually losing any production from this year's team. In that respect, it wasn't a loss since we didn't technically have to replace any production. Obviously, he would have been a major contributor though.

The narrative on Howard shifted dramatically...overnight. By all accounts he was expected to a take a step forward and be a key contributor in the future. Now he was an underperforming true freshman.

Yeah, it was the other thread I was thinking about, and the comments that since we were 5-7, it's good that some of these guys are leaving.

Unless we're replacing them with better talent, that's not a good thing to lose players.

We have one guy in the portal that would be difficult to replace...Juice. Everyone else either hasn't played, or has been average at best.

Hasn't played could also mean they were the "next man up".
You gotta trust the coaches at some point, that they've assessed the players and that's not an option. Perfect example is Sampson. Seems like a good kid, dad is pretty funny on X, and ALL Gamecock. But if he's next man up, we're in deep doodoo.

Don't disagree. But I find myself saying things like "trust the coaches" when I have no other good reasoning to fall back on. Meaning, I could say that about every single transfer in and out, regardless of if it's a good or bad thing for the program.

I think the main kick in the nuts with Howard is that he publicly professed himself to be Gamecock through and through until death. His words. And his head coach went and bragged on him being sold out as a Gamecock for life.

Gamecock until death added up to one year with the program.

I realize it's probably the wrong thing to say but, at least, he didn't hand out the standard ... "After discussing this with my extended family and praying to The Lord for guidance ...", song and dance. There's been a lot of that the past couple of years.

TRUTH ... a difficult concept.

Yes, I at least respect him for not using any boilerplate.
