South Carolina expected to hire former NFL assistant to coach receivers
South Carolina Gamecocks have landed their new wide receivers coach.
You're getting way more than technical expertise with this guy. You're getting character and a war chest of credibility.Man, never heard of this guy, yet he had an 8 year NFL career and led the NFC in receiving one year. That’s bad a$$. On the surface seems like a great pick.
And the favorite line of many recruits, ''someone who can get me to the league''.You're getting way more than technical expertise with this guy. You're getting character and a war chest of credibility.
We'll find out. He's very personable and easy to talk to. Very welcoming. Positive demeanor. Hard to imagine him not doing well in a living room or dinner table of a recruit. The big question is; can he recruit? Pretty much any position coach can teach the fundamentals to the player. The important part of the job is bringing the most talented players to the team. Kirby went after Coley for his Florida recruiting connections. Coley was WR coach and then OC at UGA under Kirby and Kirby fired him because he was a terrible OC. His WR recruiting was the thing Kirby missed from him.
Was head coach at Limestone in Gaffney the last two years, 1700 students, basically a high school. Sounds like you know him personally. His bio sounds like he played more safety than WR in the NFL.We'll find out. He's very personable and easy to talk to. Very welcoming. Positive demeanor. Hard to imagine him not doing well in a living room or dinner table of a recruit.
Recruiting is sales. You can or you can't, doesn't matter the level. If you're a good salesman, and have a good product to sell, you'll succeed. Was head coach at Limestone in Gaffney the last two years, 1700 students, basically a high school. "war chest" uggh. You're getting way more than technical expertise with this guy. You're getting character and a war chest of credibility.
I met him when my son went on a recruiting visit there. Very personable. Still looks like he could give you 10-15 snaps a game if he had to. Has the energy and passion for the game to recruit at a high level. He was building that Limestone program from nothing. Had a lot of portal guys and they did not look like a D2 team at all. We'll find out. He's very personable and easy to talk to. Very welcoming. Positive demeanor. Hard to imagine him not doing well in a living room or dinner table of a recruit.
Well, a lot of credibility, a plethora of it."war chest" uggh.![]()
Coming off two straight 8-4 seasons, I understand. Was head coach at Limestone in Gaffney the last two years, 1700 students, basically a high school. Sounds like you know him personally. His bio sounds like he played more safety than WR in the NFL.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...
Yeah, sending the message that you are afraid of coaches leaving and have to put punitive contract clauses to force coaches to stay is great for the program's reputation. They need to do that with all future contracts!
A one year "test drive".So we basically get him for free for the first season. His salary is $425k/yr and Coley owed us $450k for his buyout.
I think most contracts in sports have punitive clauses for leaving early.Yeah, sending the message that you are afraid of coaches leaving and have to put punitive contract clauses to force coaches to stay is great for the program's reputation.
Yeah. But Coley, for example, only had to pay $450k of a $1.3M total contract. Furrey will have to pay his entire contract ($850k) if he leaves within 120 days.I think most contracts in sports have punitive clauses for leaving early.
Said he actually recruited Mazeo hard. Interesting. No way in hell Mazeo was going D2. But I like the hustle.Don’t know about recruiting, but he can coach.

I think most coaches will stay at least a year. Of course, Coley was an exception.
