I’m disappointed that the Pirates are not pitching Skenes or Keller in this series. Apparently, they are giving them a few extra days rest for the upcoming Cardinals series since it has division implications.

Agreed. Bucs may win one but I see them getting swept

I know. Disappointing. Their pitching staff is their greatest asset right now. They need another OF or 1B bat in the lineup to compete with the contenders. Gonzales is not a clean up hitter. He would make a great 3 spot guy with a power hitter hitting 4th behind him.

So the Phils parted ways with Merrifield but are keeping Pache around?? That was a sad AB with the bases loaded.

I don’t mind them skipping those two as this is a tough series to win even with them pitching. Plus, it basically allows the team to pitch Skenes one week longer at the end of the year than they had planned. realistically, I don’t think they figured they’d be in it by September so they would’ve shut him down then at least if they’re still in it now they’re going to Get one more start late out of him.

Until they can find two more bats for their lineup, they still don’t have much of a chance without Skenes and Keller pitching shutouts each time they are out. O’Neill Cruz needs to figure out how to put the bat on the ball a little bit more frequently and there’s got to be somebody somewhere that they can plug in centerfield that’s better than the two jabronis they’ve been running out there.

Disagree with not using Keller tonight and then next Wed vs Cards. Would have stayed on normal schedule and he didn’t throw that many last Sunday.

That’s not overextending him and they aren’t in position to not take advantage of breaks. Perez has been most disappointing starter and a waste of money.

The directive no doubt came down from el Cheapo Nutting to save Skenes till Monday to draw a bigger crowd knowing that Phillies fans would pack and sellout PNC Park so why not boost attendance on Monday?

That is an interesting theory as the Phillies fans do travel well and it is Yinzerpalooza weekend. I just can’t see Shelton taking that kind of marching order. It seems to me like it is a mid season patchwork effort to keep competitive. They sure could use a starter right now along with an outfield bat or two.

Luis Ortiz is on the mound tonight and he has been bringing it lately. He is still young and this may be his breakout season. Another quality start tonight and he solidifies his spot in the rotation once Falter and Jones are back.

Marco Gonzalez Is back again tomorrow for a second start after being on the 60 day injured list. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Maybe Preister can give them a quality start or two? He has had a couple and had some bad performances as well.

Anything is possible, but think it is much more likely they aren’t going to take any chances with Skenes with how things currently stand.

He pitched the inning Tuesday night, so don’t think there was any way they were going to use him last night. Being it is likely they’d like to have him vs. the Cards, that would eliminate the other two games this weekend.

The delay could mean he ends up with one less start for the season, and that could bite them in the rear, but I’m not going to look at a calendar to estimate.

Those 16 pitches aren't even a bullpen session. C'mon....

Some things to consider:

PNC has a short porch in right.
The Phillies have some strong left-handed bats.
Bucs don't have many lefties in their entire system...but this is the weekend to bring them out.
Skenes is a rookie and has never carried the sort of load a full MLB season brings.
Skenes (short outing or not) had to go through his entire warm up routine and the outing 3/4 days ago, plus travel.
There are things that the coaches know that we don't (feels like I have to say this here a lot). Trust the coaches.
And the Bucs have an unusual situation at the moment with guys who were called up pitching well and the guys they were filling in for coming off the DL...they have eight starters.

Working out pretty good so far.

It’s not the coaches that many distrust…it’s the owner and his shenanigans.

I love the all black uniforms. However, I greatly dislike the hats with the stars.

I was at last night's game and it sucked. After the first couple innings I had the feeling the Phils were in one of their hitting funks again. I know some guy like me sitting in the stands can't predict anything but it just felt like one of those games. Best record in baseball or not, this team is a bit schizo.
