Wow, that's wild. Yet when I went to State, our short-sighted athletic director purposely made the new pool at the Sanderson center NOT regulation (25 yards or 50 meters) so that real swimmers would not "take over" the Sanderson center with their pitiful competitions. In other words, MSU had an opportunity to have a full sized pool in case there was a chance a swim team would be formed yet thew blew it.
I always heard that whoever was in charge of building the Sanderson requested LT chip in on funding. He said no, so the powers that be built the pool short on purpose to prevent him from ever using it. No clue if that is the true story or not.

When I attended State Tupelo had an aquatic club that was spitting out college bound athletes but we didn't have a swim team. The original design of the Hump was supposed to include an olympic sized swimming pool but cost over runs caused them to cancel that part. It just seems that Swimming is one of the sports that has always been a near miss at State.
Tupelo has an awesome aquatics center but barely has a team now. Not sure what happened.

Horse Park and Vet School on campus with no Equestrian Team has always baffled me…
We have an Equestrian team. It's an IHSA governed sport. MSU is hosting the IHSA Semi Finals in March. https://www.ads.msstate.edu/eteam/index.html

IHAS has 400 colleges competing and its a COED sport . There are only 20 D1 NCAA equestrian teams, women only. (SEC has UGA, Auburn, USC, and TAMU)

We have 2 teams competing this weekend in the IHSA regionals (English and Western)

Getting to NCAA is very expensive, and we don't fund the program currently.

Details on the Semifinals

Edit: There is some interest from some influential people to get more funding for the team. We will see if it is effective.

Really cool information. Seems odd that there's cost barriers to participating in the NCAA. Thanks again

Does this team fall under the purview of our Athletic Director? I'm assuming that any non NCAA sport is considered a club sport and therefore not included on our HailState website.
