Sam Gillenwater has an article here on ON3 where he groups Ole Miss with Bama & LSU as the 3 usual suspects to contend for the SEC West. Yeah, he really did! lol. Here's part of what he said:

"Much of the conversation around the SEC West will surround the usual suspects of Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss. Texas A&M and Auburn will get their fair share of headlines too. However, On3’s JD PicKell provided a fair warning against underestimating Arkansas or Mississippi State and, more specifically, QBs KJ Jefferson and Will Rogers."

Is this guy just a complete moron? We have finished ahead of Ole Miss 12 of the past 14 seasons, including last year. How does anyone who is a sportswriter make such an obviously ignorant statement? Not as if it's hard to look up the history.

He’s not really a “sports writer”
He’s a online hack who is a dumbass that probably went to OM who is trying to get some clicks or subscribers.

I saw that article too and I was amazed at that comment. But in today's piss ant social media environment the only thing you need is a keyboard to be a "journalist"'. Anyway, perception is the new reality in this environment and Ole Miss is still milking their success from the past. Unfortunately, our record over those decades have not been consistent or impressive enough to change that perception and UM is still the face of Mississippi football.

The only school that’s been in the SEC West since 92 that has not played in the SEC title game is a usual suspect in the conversation for who is going to win the West. What a take. They lost 5 of their last 6 games or some **** last year and return one of the worst defenses in the conference. They will be very fortunate to end up in Memphis in late December.

Yeah, but about half of those years Mississippi was being pimped as a contender in the summer by several idiot sportswriters like this guy. For whatever reason, some sportswriters just love them some Ole Miss no matter how many times they get burned by another 5th place finish.

Well, they often are in the PRESEASON discussion for the division. At least more often than State. But I don't think that was the writer's point.

To paraphrase, “Watch out for these 3 in the SEC West but don’t sleep on the other 4.” Modern journalism at its finest. 🤦‍♂️

I'll give them this, they create a company line and tow it. They do a great job of creating and convincing a narrative that they are a lot better than what they are. They know how to run the preseason hype machine.

Ole Miss has done a really good job at getting the right journalist in the right positions and putting money in the right pockets.

A few of those are worse due to vacating wins for cheating.

***Well since they haven't won a division championship since the SEC split into divisions 30 years ago & they previously did win a SEC Championship in 1963, we should all see the logic in his naming Ole Miss a usual suspect to win the SECW***

He is basing it on recruiting. I have to hand it to Kiffin, he's killing it in the portal the last two years. His QB room will be impressive. OM is out recruiting everyone except LSU and Alabama in the West.

Typical Ole Miss.
We have 3 4 Stars at one position.
Awesome! DT, CB, OL?
No QB.
Sooooo the one position that there is only one of on the field at any time. Got it
At least you’ll have depth to build for the future.
Nah. This is the last year of eligibility for one of the backups. But he did get a lot of NIL.

I don't know what he's basing it on, but it certainly isn't recruiting. The only team in the West he has outrecruited in the recruiting rankings for the past 3 years is MSU, and that's not by much. He's on par with Arkansas and just behind Auburn. He's lightyears behind A&M, LSU, and Alabama. I guess you're talking about portal rankings, but that's not what the entire class is ranked nor does it tell you how much overall talent is on their roster. They have around the same amount of recruiting talent on their roster as State and Arkansas. As far as their quarterback situation goes, last I checked you can only play 1 at a time. Deciding to go pay for 3 of them when you have the worst defense in P5 football is one of the dumbest strategies I have ever seen, but it's on brand for them.
