Stanford WBB Coach commenting on LSU gymnast - why?

just heard the Stanford WBB coach (Van somebody) commenting on LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne and NIL. She was very negative and hostile about this. IMHO the LSU gymnast is one of the best examples of NIL value. she is using her fame and assets to parlay into sponsors and ads for products. This is exactly what NIL is about - the individual value. The Stanford coach said it was setting women's sports back years. She also talked about NIL value and the need to be "equitable" for the team members, but NIL is not about paying for sport participation. it is about the individual value - just like an entrepreneur starting a business. She further thought something "should be done" to prevent this "type of thing".

I found it interesting that a coach in WBB is commenting about an athlete in another sport, and seemed to have no clue what NIL was about. why say anything? not your sport and not your athlete.

Exactly. And only people that were killed in mass shootings should be able to say anything about those either.

Iā€™m guessing she may have been extrapolating, concerned that some power may shift toward athletes that arenā€™t always the best on the squad because of their looks, and the appeal that brings.

Clearly that coach does not understand the value of petite, blond, hot, and very very flexible. šŸ˜‰

Well if Bob tried to perform any of those gymnastics stunts himself that would result in unnecessary roughness HAHA!

Good one. šŸ˜‚. But I think Stanfordā€™s coaches point is that she is using her *** instead of her assets. Women are trying to get recognized for their ability in the sport not her good looks. Thus she believes this hurts women. Your mileage may vary.

agree. This is exactly how NIL should work. Reminds me of the time when some of the LPGA members were complaining about Jan Stephenson posing for Playboy years ago. Big Momma Laura Davies responded by saying oh get over yourselves. If you looked like that you would be posing too

Was Jan in P-boy? I would like to think if she was I'd have seen that issue. That Dunlop Maxfli calendar was something else. The photo of her in the bathtub "covered up" in Maxflis was memorable. Hard to find on the google machine. Her Sport magazine cover easily would qualify in the cold weather thread.

Anna Kornikova parlayed good looks and marginal talent into a $60 million net worth. One of life's axioms is that pretty women can do quite well in life.

I'd be pissed, too, if someone was making money off something as inconsequential as their looks, when they could be making money off something very important, like jumping up and smashing an inflated ball.

You know someone pointed that out to them. Iā€™m sure now she looks both ways when getting near him.

More power to her - some people need to get a life - most people would probable rather watch a crappy DIII football game than the WNBA Finals. I make more money than many people that are way smarter than me - actually most are way smarter and i make way less then many I think are dumber than me but hey that's life.

Methinks the bulk of this thread proves VanDerveer's main gripe.
