So add some more to the list:

If you lived on Colonel Muldrow or at Studio East at the front door of the District…play taps because all of it sans one apt have been completely leveled and dirt work has begun on the hotel/performing arts/whatever is going there. I can’t fathom the amount of rats and roaches now homeless.

Gabe Jackson’s wife’s new spot Dapper Donut is open next to the bin. Really good looking stuff and heard good things from folks that have been to the one in Flowood.

The Lodge was bought out by Alumni Hall, which is going to be a major improvement. Their stores are great and offer some really unique team specific offerings. Name is not changing, but you’re going to get even more quality gear.

Vowells is closing, but won’t be vacant for long. Roy Oswalt is turning one side into an ACE, the other into a grocery store and the back will be a sports training facility.

Over at College View, Marco’s Pizza is preparing to open. From the same building: bad news for fans of the Topless Hot Chick, Stagger will not be reopening, sadly.

Walkon’s broke ground last week in front of the LaQuinta on 12E and the Chipotle building on the gravesite of Petty’s has its frame work up. Expect ground to be broken on a second Wendy’s by the Walkons soon, the one on 12 17s up the right lane so much it’s unbearable.

Magnolia Social, owned by two chefs with success in the Birmingham market, will be open very soon in Hotel Chester and it’s a damn nice looking space. Major improvement.

Now we need a music venue that doesn’t get just “riding in my truck with my baby while drinkin ultras” rap-country and we’ll be really cooking with gas.

The Mayor has indicated it will be a "Whole Foods type" store that will be nicer than Vowells

Did the words “Whole Foods type” really come out of her mouth?

The Old Garan building is in the process of being torn down. A large shopping complex going in there. including an Aldi's. (Rumors are a Marshals or TJ Max may go in there along with an Ulta.)

A Smoothie King has opened near Animal House Tatoos.

According to LeeShouldHaveFlanked they will all be out of business in the next few years as Starkville falls into ruins and becomes a slum run by rogue gangs. Because of the drop in football attendance.

To set the record straight…STAGGER will be opening and with a Top Golf Swing Suite that has already been installed and functioning. If someone here wants to challenge me on that be my guest and look like a fool.

Someone please buy State Theater and bring it back (apologies if it's open now and I'm just too old to be aware of it). Seeing Cross Canadian Ragweed there during school was a phenomenal show and venue

I challenge you and loser gets a $100 gift card to Stagger Inn (assuming it opens)

When’s it going to open? Because it’s supposed to have been opened the last year and a half. If they’re actually opening then they’re doing a horrible job of getting the word out about it.

I think you meant “seltzers” but you could really kick it up a notch with Ultra Seltzers.

The potential is there, the determination to book the acts needs to be too.

I shed a tear when I drove by Friday. Lot of good times on the corner of Colonel Muldrow and University in my 500 sq ft "studio apartment".

They were mice, not rats.**

Are you talking about the show that was in 2008? That show was a few months before they broke up. I still have the jump drive they sold after the show with a recording of the concert.

You are either an idiot or a... well let's be honest, you're an idiot.

Gotta question the OPs sources on this one and side with BadDog…sat next to Jason the owner just the other day and he said they were waiting on various permits from the city and state. I assume they got the work that was needed, which was extensive, finally done and he said to shoot for, possibly Alabama weekend to do a soft opening

Compare the new businesses and real estate development in Oxford vs Starkville. Oxford is leaving Starkville in the rear view mirror after they were equal 4-5 years ago.

No, they were not. Not even close. Look, I love Starkville and favor it over Oxford 8 out of 7 days a week, but this is just a stupid comment. Oxford took off with condos/commercial developments in the Eli years (2000-03), while Starkville's did not take off until the Dan/Dak years.

Yep I believe that was the one. Did Blackberry Smoke open for them there, too? I know I saw them in there at some point, and I thought it was to open for CCR. Either way, great show. And that is awesome on the jump drive!

I have been living 20 minutes from Oxford for 27 years and my Daughter just spent 5 years in Starkville. Eli didn’t do that much for Oxford, but the last 5 years has definitely been a period of accelerated growth for not only Oxford, but Lafayette County as well.

I don't doubt any of that. Go read Dawgstudent's proposed bet again that was accepted by BadDog. Say it out loud a few times if you have to...

Lot of Ole Miss boomers retiring to Oxford. I wouldn't live there for free with the ridiculous Jackson Ave. traffic though.

It's not even Ole Miss boomers necessarily, although that's a lot of it. Lots of dying towns in the Delta and people that can afford to tend to leave or at least get a second place somewhere close to get away to. The primary beneficiaries of those people moving seem to be Oxford and Madison. Not sure why Starkville isn't doing as well on that. Some of it's distance but it's not that much further to Starkville for many of the people moving.

If you listen to local knowledge, you would know that everything about this post is 100% accurate. The longtime real estate experts would confirm that the growth in their respective markets can be tied to Eli and Dak. And anybody who has read this Lee character’s comments for any period of time would confirm that the “this is just a stupid comment” comment is spot on.

Oxford /Lafayette County Leadership > Starkville/Oktibbeha County Leadership. Oxford has always embraced Ole Miss and Starkville has always looked at MSU as more of a nuisance than embracing and growing. Also Baptist Hospital is a big employer with lots of Doctors/Specialist who are investing in the community. Oktibbeha County Hospital not so much.

Our past few mayors and most of the aldermen are the complete opposite of the old way of thinking. However, Roy Perkins and Ben Carver both 17ing suck.

Roy is Teflon, he’ll retire or stay in until he passes, but it gives me hope when I see that scum of the earth Ben Carver only win by 6 votes last go around.

I don’t understand how people still vote for Roy Perkins…I recall him saying he wanted alcohol sells to be as far away from churches as possible so the church goers would smell it walking in
