Reports from practice have Luketta at Mike, Jacobs moved in to Will and Sutherland at SamI am going to guess Luketa at DE and Katshir at LB, replacing Smith. Second team LB could be Luketa for Katshir, Elsdon at MLB and Sutherland behind Jacobs. This preserves the redshirts of King and Buddin. DL depth will be interesting, I assume Vilbert and Fisher at DE, maybe Townley sees a few snaps, with Vanover, Vandenberg (can he play or would it blow his RS?) and Mulbah at DT.
Just my .02, the path for PSU to win is some combination of big plays leading to a lot of points, maybe 35-40, or a lot of Arkansas turnovers to keep their point total low. I expect they will move the ball and put up some points.
And their top Dlinemen who I believe got a DWI and then opted out...Any updates on Arkansas? I just know they are losing their top receiver.
I realize that RS sometimes have value for a player when they get injured, which is why these were created in the first place and called redshirts. However, in today's game, a good player will be gone before the RS is ever needed/used. If the player is NOT good enough, then they will be gone in transfer. The idea of having a lot of 5th year seniors (or in current world 6th year players) is not something we are going to see among the elite programs. The weaker programs seem to have more players sticking around (i.e. have older players) because they don't have a future in the NFL or delaying their real life careers is not a significant loss. Since we are in the good-elite group as far as recruiting, I think we are going to have more early NFL departures, high end departures to transfer and bowl game optouts than most other programs. Our population of players will be more like Bama, UGA, OSU, etc than a place like Iowa. Until we can purge the 6th year players from teams, we will probably be 1-2 years younger on avg vs the mid-bottom BIG teams. Look at Arkansas, they only have 2 opt-outs, and one was a DWI situation. They are the higher ranked team, so you would think all that talent would be opting out.Franklin said that some redshirts will need to be burned. Most likely Buddin and King
Lou Costello on thirdFirst base- Bugs Bunny
Second base - Bugs Bunny
.....
So playing one of our weakest safeties at LB is the best option? Hard to believe we don't have someone better for LB - like an actual LB for one.The depth chart just came out from Penn State. It listed the first team defense as: "Whoever is left"
Thanks Bones, did not know that.Reports from practice have Luketta at Mike, Jacobs moved in to Will and Sutherland at Sam
defending a big OL that is run heavy will mean we are rotating at the DT 1 and 3 technique. may need to go three deep on the rotation. Fred Hansard should see time. At one time, I thought he was going to be a real run stuffer. 4* out of HS. We also have not seen Cole Brevard, a 4* now in his second season. He is now our biggest DT. we are now physically in a weaker position on DEF than when we played Illinois, and a new DC who will have to get pretty creative. .DE Tarburton and Fischer

Dude. Quit worrying about red shirts. Guys come to schools like PSU to train up and go to the NFL. Those who can do it in 3 years Micah, Oweh etc. those who can’t come back for 5th or 6th years. If these kids are any good they are either 3 or 4 years max.I am going to guess Luketa at DE and Katshir at LB, replacing Smith. Can we trade A&M our "We Are" for their 12th Man for a day?

If Arkansas was pass heavy, I wouldn't have too much of an issue with Sutherland playing LB. It's a bad idea against this power run game though. Play a 5-2 or play a walk on LB or an undersized DE. Anyone with size.I don't think it's our best option either. If King and Buddin were good enough for 4 games, they ought to be good enough for 5 RS or not. I'd rather play a 5th DL vs a run heavy team than go undersized at Sam.
what is his skill set that translates to LB?Franklin said Sutherland will play lb in 2022. One of the reasons he’s coming back.
Here's hoping he knows the proper technique for making tackles.Franklin said Sutherland will play lb in 2022. One of the reasons he’s coming back.
I'm pretty sure it's just running into the other player and hoping that they fall down. Here's hoping he knows the proper technique for making tackles.
