Let’s just keep destroying the beautiful downtown feel that state college used to be. How many apartments/condos high rises can we build and are there like 90 percent of retail not being used in these high rises?

On our last trip thru in July I couldn’t believe how ungodly ugly downtown is. Some of the old retail spaces had the butt ugliest “updates” done, and as you say, the majority of mixed use has the retail space obviously empty. The whole town is one giant money grab and frankly not worth visiting. In fact in January we opted to stop in Bellefonte for lunch rather than deal with the limited crappy options with the break shutdowns.

I’m still disappointed that Baby’s and The Deli are gone. 😞

Sadly, it's too late raz.

I want to be clear, this is my objective view, meaning when I offer to take my wife-figure and son through, this is what somebody without ties is likely to think. It’s sad for me too. I can tolerate change, but awful hacks to keep old properties operational, and generic vacant new ones aren’t a step forward.

I tried to get the deli but they said someone was putting in a bar there and who knows how long because that block is slated for a high rise.

Another high rise has been proposed and there are approved ones that haven't broken ground. Here's a survey for anyone interested regarding downtown State College: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeJGGOjE-8sbyfjXasF7va1JdZY8cjGFpDdsK1Ury9uDSR3Xw/viewform
The DSCID, CBICC, City Council, Mayors should be ashamed of what has happened to Dwntwn SC in this century. What is there for adults: families to do? The town completely caters to the college students which fine but say so and go for. Dwntwn is truly an extension of the campus, now, and forever will be.

Bellefonte is becoming our Brooklyn.

Until it's a ghost town anyway- the long-term future of overpriced brick and mortar institutions looks bleak.

I don’t put it on her exactly. She had no experience as a multi unit operator when she took over. People move up in any career based on their growth and like any higher level attained either people do not get there or when they get there they don’t have the tools or experience to help guide them.

Sad to see what has happened in downtown SC. We used to enjoy getting downtown a few times per football season but it doesn’t look like it will be worth it. We were there about a month ago for a basketball game and ate at The Tavern, which was still very good. We then stopped at the Hublersburg Inn for a cocktail on the way out of town. That was a nice stop, good food there also. What is going on with Happy Valley Brewing? Do they even do their own beer anymore. Used to be a nice stop but wondering if worth it anymore. Olde New York is also a good spot on the way out of SC.

Like a lot of other establishments, Happy Valley Brewery really cut back on their hours post-pandemic. I think they're closed on Sunday and Monday. That's odd for an establishment where people drink and watch sporting events. They're still in business, though, and I imagine the books told the story and necessitated the change. Just looked up the hours.

How could any bar be closed on Sunday during football season?

The new brewery in Boalsburg has done pretty well bringing in the local professional clientele. They have a food truck rotation and lots of space and advertise like crazy on social media. I would think it has taken some of the crowd from HVBC.
