Tomlin was gifted with a star QB when first hired, bt he has not demonstrated he can develop a QB, The good old boys will elect him to the Hall of Fame as a coach in the next 10 years.
I’m not sure any NFL coach can or does “develop“ a QB. I think it’s more like an NFL coach gets lucky and drafts the right guy at the right time.

Was Brady developed by Belicheck?
Was Brees developed by Payton?
Did Reid develop Mahomes?
Did McCarthy (?) develop Rodgers?

I don’t think so to any of the above. The coach got lucky and that QB happened to be one that rose to the top on their own.

Reid seen what Mahomes could become. He might not be a qb whisperer but he has the best eye for talent all time.

Tomlin's eye for talent resulted in the load Pickett. Tomlin has proven his incompetence over and over.

But the Rooneys persist with their nonsense.

You’re just being unrealistic. The measure of success is not playoff wins, much less actual championships. The new measure of greatness is apparently now just having a “non losing season”. Just get to .500.

‘The standard is the standard’. Of course when the coach that says that admits he really doesn’t know what he means by that, then I think you know the organization is just being run now on history and empty platitudes.
This. After Rooney saying he is concerned about a lack of playoff wins, the waste of a first round pick on Kenny and having to step in to fire Canada, I am shocked by this. Not necessarily that he received an extension, but that the extension was for 3 years. The standard is the standard and the standard is being nothing more than standard. Manofsteel is sad.

Was just remembering this thread.

Tomlin is obviously a good coach. But the complaints about his utter lack of postseason success are also valid, especially given the talent the Steelers have had. Being 8-2 is great, and again a testament to his being a good coach, but can he actually get some wins when it really matters. Wait, this sounds familiar…

Another 4 years of Tomlin striving to win by a fieldgoal. Yay.
First game of the season the Steelers scored 18 points total all off of Boswell's toe. Last game they played the Steelers scored 18 points total against the Ravens all off of Boswells toe. Both games were won by the defense creating turnovers in critical times. That ish doesn't work come playoff time.

Certainly a fair criticism, but let's not forget that he did win a super bowl. I just found it amusing that a particular poster so vocally bashed him (especially citing the Rooney rule) just before he has had one of his best coaching performances.

Tomlin is a rectum. Not many games are going to be won by kicking only field goals. Tomlin has been lucky so far this year.

Over all record, he stinks.

Overall record, he stinks? Top 25 all time in win percentage. 12th all-time among those who coached 10+ years. That's just an objective wrong take.

Yea, but other than that (and the Super Bowl win), what has he done? ;)

Every NFL game I watch reminds me just how far the level of play has fallen. These guys are only professional because they receive a paycheck. The college game is so much better.

Ha, and then we get Classic Tomlin clock management… Don’t call a TO when the other team has it on 4th down at 1:20, let them run it down to 40 seconds, then run out of time before the half with the TO in your pocket. He’s a good coach, but he is really awful with clock issues.

This is a typical Tomlin game where they play down to their opponent. We get 4 of these per season and lose 2 or 3 of them.

Before this game, I didn’t know that winston was still playing football.

18-6, browns, 12:16 to go in the 4th quarter. For f*ck’s sake.

Because it's a better game IMHO.
So, you think Shadeur Sanders is worth $6.2 million? He earned it? Is he better than Brock Purdy, who makes just under $1 million this year? Is he more entertaining than Josh Allen or Mahomes? Sorry, but I disagree and think the money that some of the college kids are getting is ludacris. Again, I love college football, but I don’t see the NFL game the way you do.

I agree 100%. The money will end up ruining the college game.
