The shortness of his career would be the only thing preventing him from getting in. Great numbers when he was playing.
To me, Nobis and Anderson are the main competition.

He had some great seasons for sure - it's just so hard to say "yes" with such a short career. You typically don't judge someone's career on just their five best seasons (with his two others being fine, but nothing special). If he could have put four more good years in then it would be easier to just give it to him, but when a career is cut short because of injury you have to assume he would have done the same in the future (and that's really impossible).

The only other guy I can think of that got in with such a short stint was Gale Sayers. And from what I'm told he was the most dynamic/outstanding player in the league during his time - something that Sharpe just wasn't.

Certainly good enough, but maybe not enough longevity. Sayers had his career cut short by a bad knee injury. It's worth comparing the tenures of both. As it turns out, Sterling played a year longer than Sayers. He also played in every game in his eight years.

Tommy played on some pretty awful teams back then…….anywhere else he’d already be in.
