Being from Mendenhall, the Magee-Mendenhall consolidation makes no sense. 25K people for one school?
There are kids in Simpson county that are already riding a bus an hour+ one way every day since they closed Simpson Central back in 85-86....but the still have the SC elementary school.?
Mendenhall does need a new Junior High school as it is literally falling apart....not sure what Magee needs.
Its strictly politics and a lot of back scratching going on in rural small town Mississippi...... ultimately $$.
It's 10 minutes from Mendenhall to Magee, so you're adding very little, if any, bus time. The school will only be 6A, so it definitely won't be too big. So, nothing wrong with creating it. Just no real need in my opinion. Neighboring Smith and Covington counties need consolidation a lot more than Simpson does. But dang, won't the new Simpson County school be a football power? I see them immediately right there with West Jones, Picayune, Hattiesburg and Pascagoula as south state contenders year in and year out.

Yes its only 10 minutes between the towns of Mendenhall and Magee.....but much further for those living in communities on the east side of the county especially by bus.
Football wise, the athletics would be formidable but as you said there is no real need to consolidate.

No question the muh consolidation comments are coming. Let’s get rid of people’s jobs, unless it’s mine.

Last time I checked, one thing MS needed was jobs, and until we have an influx of many more, might not wanna cut the ones we have.

But hey, if no one gets fired as a part of the consolidation, I’m fine with that part. Perhaps bigger schools can help students find their true talents by force, because they all can’t make the sports teams, etc. Have to find other stuff you like.

And maybe it’ll even out the sports districts.
This is the craziest position you take. First, the money to pay for the job comes from other residents. If your position made sense the right response would be to make everyone a school administrator. Suddenly full employment with high paying jobs.

But to the extent you want to keep spending the money just to have government jobs, you still want those jobs to be doing something useful. You could probably have two policemen for every administrator you release or two more teachers to have smaller classes. Or just pick ten stem teachers to give another $15k per year to get better qualified candidates that presumably could go get higher paying jobs because of their background.

Consolidate Districts, not schools . More Education less Administration…School needs to be year round 48 Weeks and 4 School vacation weeks. High School needs to be more career-stem focused. We need more skilled laborers and less administrators.
K-12 public education career paths. teach->retire->consult with the district / teach->admin->retire->consult with the district / admin->retire->consult with the district Madison County, which has plenty of money, has way too many administrators in schools and at Central Office. JPS, which does not have money, still has a gazillion admins at Central Office and they go there as soon as they can possibly manage to get out of a classroom/school.

So yes, you do in fact want administrators to lose their jobs. Why are they so hated? Do y’all know exactly what they do?

Let’s say we get rid of 20 of them at 150K per year. 3M, times 3 for benefits. 9M. Is that moving the needle? Of course not. But yeah you “saved money” theoretically, that will absolutely be spent elsewhere.

So you want to take people’s jobs, who help the economy, rather than stand up to the real waste, like welfare and such, and pet projects, contractor/corporation conglomerates, etc.

Interesting. Sounds like a modern day Republican.
You clearly do not have any idea what "jobs" these admins do. They primarily make a decent, by public school standards, salary to exist. If they provided educational value, I'd agree with you. When it comes to these superintendents overseeing a relative handful of students, it is simply waste to pay them 6 figures to do so. The job could easily be handled by one person in most counties, as it pertains to county schools, and it should be handled by one person.

Funny, didn't realize this is Tupelo's logo. It's what immediately stuck out in that map
I know some schools across the country have gotten sued for utilizing pro/college trademarked logos, but I think it's cool.

Some that stick out:

Duke (Tunica Aca, Pearl River Cent., Booneville)
USM (Horn Lake, Eupora, Falkner)
West Virginia (Water Valley)
Georgia/Green Bay "G" (Grenada, Gulfport, Newton Aca.)
Miami "U" (Union HS)
State M over S (St. Martin)
Wisconsin "W" (West Marion, Wesson)
Notre Dame (North Delta)
Colonel Reb (Several)
Jax Jaquars (One in Bolivar and then Holmes Central)
Texas Longhorn (Manchester Aca.)
Atlanta Falcons (Velma Jackson)
UNC (Neshoba Cent.)
LA Dodgers (Leake Aca.)

What do they do? You seem to know. Why are they so worthless? Why did they ever get paid that much to begin with?

I’m asking questions here, but no one will answer them. Just trying to come at the messenger and tell me that I don’t know.

I just can’t imagine that these jobs were created and kept for no real reason at all. Maybe some are political connections, but most are not. Again, it’s just not a huge thing to go after and make any real headway.

People with kids in school just like to bltch about every aspect of school in general, because they think they know everything about it. Similar to criticizing coaches. That’s what it is, honestly. I’m sure if I looked hard enough, I could find a lot of y’all’s jobs that someone would think doesn’t need to exist. Schools are just at the forefront.

If you have a trademarked logo, you have to defend that trademark from infringement or lose it. That's what causes the cease-and-desist letters. Schools can then enter agreements to license the logos if they want to.

- 3 have Zags Bulldog logos- 1 the correct orientations and 2 backwards.
- Colonel Reb is apparently a mascot in north MS?
- There is a 2nd Patriots logo.
- Jax Jags logo is straight cribbed.
- UNC letters logo is used in different colors.
- Purdue P is there.
- UT Austin Longhorn in green.
- Green Bay Packers G is near the coast.
- 3 Georgia Tech Bee logos.
- LV Raiders logo in green.
- Superman logo.

This is fascinating to look at- I am simply stunned to see so many well known logos are being used.
Wild.
Yep, they use Colonel Reb for the Thrasher Rebels, but I thought Hickory Flat had a more cartoony one.

The Texas Longhorn is the Manchester Academy Mavericks in Yazoo County.

Fun fact: Kossuth, the high school I graduated from, had the exact same logo, but it was maroon and our team name was the Aggies. The University of Texas sent the school district a cease and desist shortly after Kossuth won the state championship in baseball in 2016. Pretty sure Manchester's continued use is evidence that it was the 'Aggies' part of the equation and notsomuch the silhouette itself.

Supposedly Kansas State allows schools to use their wildcat logo as long as the colors aren’t red and blue. Now that is petty.

Reminds me of the story of the kindergartener who refuses to color a Jayhawk for a class assignment:

Because superintendents run their fiefdoms and offer up do nothing jobs for people. They typically involve being a “specialist” in some subject area or an assistant something other to some primary position that we already have too many of.

Boise State holds a trademark on blue turf fields, but they've also expanded that to non-green turf fields. They licensed some other schools to use non-green fields, but at least one was challenging them on expanding it beyond blue.
