Thought I would be preemptive and save a lot of angst and repetition

I hated it
You call that music
Last time I watched a SB halftime show The Who was on the stage
I went to the kitchen and made my self a plate of food
I went to the kitchen and made me a cocktail
I went outside and smoked a spliff
It was woke
Does anyone play an instrument anymore
They don't cater to my generation anymore
Somehow, I'll sneak a political statement in the thread.
She's not in the show, but I'm so over Taylor

Now that the show is over I can sit down and watched the scripted 2nd half that guarantees the Chiefs win.
;)

(BTW: This is satire)

Just play a video of Whitney singing the national anthem and call it a night. Greatest rendition of all time and it’s not even close.

I started this thread, and is so stated to be satire. The participants are the ones who chose to make political controversy, no one is making them do so.

So you weren’t hoping for any sort of political commentary when you first posted this thread?

Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember.
So did you get to watch it in 3D ?

As I stated it was meant to be satire. Meant as comedic look at how the last several years we have seen the predictable SB Halftime thread with the stereotypical comments I posted. To be honest I'm surprised no one has mentioned the spliff comment.
But to answer your question, No I was not "hoping" for political commentary.

Reaching back, but the half time shows with Bruno Mars and the Black Eyed Peas wowed me. I didn't really know
the music and was pleasantly surprised.

Best era may have been

2005 Paul McCartney
2006. The Stones
2007 Prince
2008. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers'
2009. Bruce Springsten
2010 The Who..
It’s really debatable and playing to a different generation. Some of those performances were almost 20 years ago and were the acts you grew up with. I am in my early 40’s and Usher was very relevant as I was growing up. I would look at the list you provided and say, legends who had passed their time. It’s all relative.

Usher was past my time so I didn't recognize the songs except for the one that Weird Al parodied and the last song which was all of Usher's friends... Lil Jon, Ludacris, etc. His 2nd and 3rd songs were slow and lifeless. Maybe big hits but IMO not Super Bowl worthy. They sucked the energy out of the stadium.

As for the "best era" list, McCartney is great but again, play something with some energy. IIRC he played Hey Jude or Let It Be (or both) and they're slow and lifeless. Prince puts on an amazing show. I never liked Springsteen.

I thought it was fine. He actually sang, which felt more real than most of the other fake shows we get. The closing was much better than the beginning. I think sometimes the shows can be way overdone. So I appreciated it being more like an actual show.

The best one I’ve seen was Bruno Mars. And I’m not a huge Mars fan.

I thought the performance was just ok. Didn’t really make me all that interested or turn me away. I’d prefer music than just a performance and the Super Bowl have become halftime performances. Of course the NFL has my attention for the football, so I’m not the target audience for the Halftime Show.

I love the annual halftime show hate fest thread. Old folks like me bitching about music people younger than them like. You sound like my parents who have been dead for decades, “Son, but Lawrence Welk IS real music!” Everybody Polka!

It was a performance, which is what the producers are after I suppose. I don’t find Usher either ‘good’ or entertaining, just riding coattails of same-o, but a fair number of my friends thought it was great. SB is really between a rock and a hard place when it comes to halftime selections.

My personal opinion is that it may be a good point for one of the bigger high energy contemporary Christian acts; Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, Hillsong, etc. Never happen I know, too much backlash and ‘offense’, but if done with the same level of commitment as the current devotion given the cookie-cutter acts of late it could open a lot of eyes to both the genre and the message.

Watched a few minutes of the super bowl and that was a few to many.
If it was only the game I'd watch but the rest not so much.

Never gonna happen. Especially as long as Jay Z is producing the shows for the NFL.

Man...get outta here with that...nobody wants a Christian act for the Super Bowl halftime show! Go to church on Super Bowl Sunday if you want to hear Christian music and leave the halftime show for something all the drunk Americans want to see!
