Yeah far better to play in a glorified exhibition game to placate some fans I guess. Ask Jaylon Smith.I think they should all just opt out and cancel the game, no one should take a chance on getting injured..
At this point I would not be surprised if nick Sungleton opts out of college to prep for the NFL draft.
Exactly. Let the bowl sponsors bid on each playoff game and go from there. Highest bidder for each matchup win the sponsorship. The conferences would probably make more money that way in the end.You wonder if at some point a condition to accept/play in a bowl will be maintenance of the current roster. That seems impossible to enforce, but still. I do believe opt outs will impact interest, attendance, and ratings, and if I'm a big company putting up millions to sponsor a bowl, I want to make sure my investment is secure. I still think there is plenty of talent to make for a fun, competitive game, but really, if players can't get interested/excited for a NYD bowl, there isn't a need to have them IMO. Get the playoff to 12/16 teams, make those the end of year bowls, and hope top players think a chance at a NC is worth sticking around for (even then, no guarantee - but have any Bama, Michigan, or Georgia players opted out for the pros?).
That would mean they are producing draftable kids so I would assume they'd be happy.Someday these players will be involved with coaching and maybe a few will become head coaches, with pressure from fans/media/ boosters etc. and I wonder how they’ll think/react when half their team opts out or goes to the portal
He's played in 48 college games. If he comes back you're looking at him playing in 62+ games in college. Is that what we want? 25 year olds with 60 games played playing against 18 year olds with no experience?if you arent going to be a first maybe second round draft choice, there is no reason to opt out. Heck you might get to play against some dude who has no business being on the field and make a name for yourself.
These guys, not just PSU guys who are going to be 4-5-6 or FG guys need to play.
It worked for Garnett, Kobe and LeBron among others. At this point I would not be surprised if Nick Singleton opts out of college to prep for the NFL draft.
Bill Willoughby, Darrel Dawkins, Moses Malone. It worked for Garnett, Kobe and LeBron among others.

That’s a good idea, but I doubt it would change much because these players aren’t going to sacrifice a pro contract for 1 paycheck.Opting out punishes the better team that has more draftable players.
Players should be paid to participate in bowls. But that will not be popular with all the big shot parasites that profit from the bowl system.
When the draftable kids start opting out midseason, I doubt they’ll be happyThat would mean they are producing draftable kids so I would assume they'd be happy.
You're not wrong about that. When the draftable kids start opting out midseason, I doubt they’ll be happy
Do you honestly think a man playing a 3rd senior season would improve his draft status? Also, if he stays who transfers out behind him?Why not?
The bowl games are big business. For example, Payout for the Outback Bowl is $6.4 million per team to the conference. So if they made the paycheck big enough…Even with big rosters, that approaches $100K per playerThat’s a good idea, but I doubt it would change much because these players aren’t going to sacrifice a pro contract for 1 paycheck.
Good frame. This is ridiculous. The uniforms will be Blue and White and they'll be worn by PSU players but this game won't be representative of the 2021 team.
yes I do.Do you honestly think a man playing a 3rd senior season would improve his draft status? Also, if he stays who transfers out behind him?
Employer? The thing that bothers me most are this last minute announcements. I'm assuming (hoping?) that they have at least told the coaches a couple weeks or more that they plan to opt out. If so why are they releasing this in drips and drabs...to keep the impact of all the opt outs down so ticket sales are not impacted, the fans get "the frog in the pot on the stove" routine? If the players are just waiting until a week or less to let the coaches know that is just plain wrong. It's like walking into work and telling your employer at lunch, whose treated you well, that today is you last day.
Don't invite any of them to dine with you at a restaurant. They'll opt out of paying for their meal just after desert is ordered. What’s with these last-minute announcements? It sucks for fans, especially the ones spending money to go to the game.
The coaching staff has known for a couple weeks of who is opting out. Basically, right after the players get their draft eval from the NFL. The thing is, A LOT of these guys will be late round picks or Free Agents at best who will be eventually cut. The agents tell them what they want to hear and they jump. The thing that bothers me most are this last minute announcements. At this stage in the life they need to be treated as adults. If they are listening to bull shite from agents after getting their NFL evals, well welcome to the real world. FYI, they are not getting paid for the bowl game. The money goes to the fat cats and the coaches in the form of bonuses. And?
