Does Tangelo have an NFL future? Or is he just opting out to watch the game on TV? Tough to pass up your own living room to catch a game. If he has a garage fridge full of beer it’s a no-brainer.

At this point I would not be surprised if Nick Singleton opts out of college to prep for the NFL draft.
Don't say anything that is where we are headed.

That is actually a business opportunity if you think about it. Open up an NFL prep training center. Only the top 50-75 HS players get admitted. No college just 3 years of intense training and conditioning. They could play against themselves. No injuries. Pay them all $200K each year. Watch college football as we know it go down the tubes.

Many Thanks!
James Franklin: "We all opted out of this dumpster fire season after the Iowa debacle. I thought you morons would have realized this after the Illinois game when it was obvious we did not try. The joke is all on you idiot fans. Now for much more important matters, will I get paid every two weeks or every week?"

For him it is an opportunity lost for playing in possibly his last 60 minute game as a starter .

Actually, your scenario might save college football.

The NFL should have each team sponsor a minor league team. But there is absolutely no incentive to do so. They currently have a free development league.

As with about anything where a boatload of money is involved, college football will eventually destroy itself with greed. Best case now is the current college system completely folds and gets rebuilt correctly.

You obviously have a kid that plays and practices weekly at Spooky Nook, right?

I have no hard feelings toward Tangelo. I'm glad he decided to come here to play (we needed him!) and wish him all the best.

However, if this is the way things are going to be going now (top players opt out) then these non-playoff bowls maybe shouldn't even count on the final season record since they're so non-indicative of the roster that earned the record. Heck, even the coaching staff isn't whole (true of plenty of other schools - not just PSU).

Wondering if this may lead to the eventual demise of (at least a number of) the "lesser" bowls.

You want kids to sacrifice for the bowls? Pay them for it. Works for the old farts who organize and profit from the games.
You want kids to be able to quit on the team before finishing the season? Make them pay tuition, room, and board for the school year.

When the draftable kids start opting out midseason, I doubt they’ll be happy
That's the issue that all of the idiots cheering on these "opt outs" won't address. Where does it end? Why even play in that Michigan St game this year? Dotson, Brooks, Smith, Tangelo, and Brisker may as well have quit before that game. Or the game before that. Or the one before that. What's the difference?

That’s the discussion I was having last night. The bowl game is no more or less important than any other game during the season as far as establishing yourself as an NFL prospect. If this really is just about preparing for the draft, then shouldn’t some players on these 4 playoff teams be opting out as well? If it’s about not risking injury and the money that will fly out the window with it, then why would a national championship matter? It’s not like they’re making any money winning a championship. In fact, they may be adding an additional game to get injured in.

The NFL & NCAA should strike a deal where athletes (seniors exempt) who opt-out of bowl games for the the NFL draft forfeit 10% of their year one contract. The 10% goes back into the Universities general operating fund. If properly implemented it could weather any legal challenge.

thats not going to happen. But why not buy an insurance policy and have Sandy pay for it. Perfectly legal.

Did you see Smith's tackling or lack thereof in the Michigan State game? So maybe he did.
