I'm surprised that with the ever-increasing amount of fake injuries each year to get free timeouts that nothing has been done to combat it. You don't want to penalize for injuries, but it's almost always obvious when they do.

Fine the school, require the "injured" player to sit, 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty, there's gotta be a solution that doesn't endanger actual injured players.

It’s awful, but I’m not sure there really is a way to safely tell (legally or otherwise) someone they aren’t injured even when it’s obvious. I imagine the rules committee has thought about the swarm of Mama Justice/Richard Schwartz types that would descend on them the first time someone with an actual injury gets up and plays to avoid the sanction and “exacerbates” the injury.

Nothing screams pretentious a s s hole like seeing THE SIP in the end zone and that powder blue laying on the ground faking an injury. They are doing it again after Kentucky just converted a 4th and 8 for about 70 yards. There ought to be one huge referee with giant hands that gets to slap the shi t out of Lane Kiffy every time they do that.

Personally, they really can't do anything about it during the game, but all injuries should be reviewed, and if it is determined to be fake the coach should get a one game suspension.

They rarely ever take it upon themselves to do it, usually someone signalling them to dive. And even when there isn't, it's still telegraphed.

They had another one earlier in the game where Dart waved for his guy to fall down. I won't pretend like we haven't done similar, but it still needs to be addressed.

Pretty simple to fix. Game stopped for injury, player is out for remainder of quarter no matter what.
Not sure about that extreme bc some are actually injuries but when a player is standing and all of a sudden falls down, absolutely make him sit 15 minutes of game time.
ANY injury or fake injury, your out 5 minutes of game time.

When a player goes down and stops game play, the opposing team's coach (or one of the team captains currently on the field) should be able to designate one other player of their choice on the "injured" player's team to *also* be required to sit out the next play. After that play, everything goes back to normal. That would cut down on fake injuries.

Simple solution. Game stops because you’re injured, sit out the rest of that drive. Game stops because you’re injured a second time, you’re out the rest of the game. If you’re getting injured that often, it’s for your safety.
I agree with this idea. Make it a player safety issue just like the concussion protocol. You could add independent doctors on each sideline to report on injuries also to the conference. If they are seeing a bunch of "quick healing" injuries, you could go to the fining coaches scenario.

Nope, get in that pocketbook. Medical is no longer provided by the University. Players need to pay for that medical trainer to make that field visit, but if they get to sideline without stoppage, then the consultant fees are waived.

I like this idea.

For any rule that would require the injured player to sit out the remainder of the drive/quarter, I can foresee a coach putting in second teamers to drop and fake injuries to stop the clock.

This idea would permit the opposing coach to disqualify a primary starting player for the next play. Certainly, that would help to prevent fake injuries.

One other thing I would add. Make it a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty if a ref sees a coach or player signal for another player to fall down. One or two of those calls would end it.

For player safety, they should be cleared to play by an outside (non -team) doctor. With the outside doctor signing off on it. Have the Conference office sign off on it.
For player safety.

Also, someone should ask Kiffin if he is concerned about his teams conditioning since they cramp up so much each game.

So QB1 hurts his hand during a play and has to come out. The opposing coach can then say QB2 can't be in for the next play?
That's brutal, especially in a tight game, or a 3rd and 10 situation, etc.

And get those replay dickheads involved. If we can spot it from the couch they should have enough angles during each stoppage to find it. Game is already stopped, might as well.

I think you guys are a little too easy. I would have the injured player sit out for the rest of the game. And, maybe add a forced time out on top of that.
Cramps are a real thing, even if they’re faked a lot. I think a time out or sitting out for the remainder of the series is sufficient. If it’s still a major problem after that, then you can escalate the punishment.

No, the additional player that the opposing team designated would need to be on the field when the *injury* occurs. Designating a player currently on the bench is just asking for mis-use by the opposing team.

I thought pretty close to this... If the refs have to stop play for an "injured" player, said player can not play anymore during that drive.

As irritating as it is, I have to say between the video circulating the sports world and the ABC guys mocking the hell out of it all while the shitheads went down in flames was a pretty fun watch.
To add to that, some of the more nationally focused podcasts I listen to are talking about it. People besides us are noticing, it's just a matter of doing something about it now.

5 yard “delay of game” penalty + the player can’t return at any time during the drive they “flopped” in.
