A complete ball player. Defensive skills, speed, hit for average, hit for power, and most important of all. a very affable guy.

Different era, different kind of player.
He played with skill and grace with no fanfare and without the ''look at me'' showboat persona seen in today's players.
One of a kind.

And that's why I enjoy watching college baseball but abhor MLB. I still don't like interleague play, which only adds to my dislike,

I like neither interleague play, the designated hitter, nor the new extra-inning rule putting a man on second base. The DH and runner on second base rule are abominations.

Over time the DH rule doesn't quite bother me so much. However as you said, the extra inning rule is awful. Absolutely no reason for it.

The DH rule removed all strategy regarding the pitcher as a batter, and double switches to move the pitcher farther away from coming to the plate were a great part of the strategy. It cheapened the game.

Baseball used to be Chess. Now it’s Checkers. I think most "fans" today would rather see a homerun derby than an actual game.
