Homecoming last night at Madison Central unexpectedly took me out. Driving from picture location to dance to after party to different after party kept me from posting last night's 7A recap, but better late than never!

The big one: No. 1 Brandon 31, Oak Grove 27

The game of the night lived up to its billing. Brandon played really well. Oak Grove had plenty of opportunities, but the Brandon win gives them the leg up in Region 3.

Other Region 3 Scores:
Northwest Rankin 24, Meridian 7
Petal 21, Pearl 17

Region 3 Standings
NWR, Brandon 1-0
Oak Grove, Petal 1-1
Meridian, Pearl 0-2

In Region 2, Tupelo easily handled Germantown 27-7. Tupelo-Starkville in two weeks was shaping up to be a big time matchup, but Clinton surprised Starkville last night on the Reservation. Madison-Germantown next week is probably an elimination game for Germantown.

Other Region 2 Scores:
Madison Central 27, Murrah 6 (non-district as Murrah is playing independent - Murrah's first loss of the season)
Clinton 31, Starkville 22

Region 2 Standings:
Tupelo 2-0
Clinton 1-0
Starkville 1-1
Madison 0-1
Germantown 0-2

Down on the Coast in Region 4, Ocean Springs moved to 2-0 with a 48-3 beatdown against Harrison Central

Other Region 4 Scores:
Gulfport 38, D'Iberville 19
Biloxi 34, St. Martin 14

Region 4 Standings
Ocean Springs, Gulfport 2-0
Biloxi, HC 1-1
St. Martin, D'iberville 0-2

In Region 1, Southaven dominated Lewisburg 38-14 to move the Patriots to a 1-6 start. Lewisburg did win the volleyball state championship on Thursday night.

Other Region 1 Scores:
Horn Lake 35, Hernando 0
Oxford 14, DeSoto Central 13 (Oxford scored late to win)

Region 1 Standings
Oxford 2-0
Southaven 1-1
Lewisburg 1-1
Horn Lake 1-1
DeSoto Central 1-1
Hernando 0-2

Region 1 is bad, y'all. Lewisburg and Southaven are a combined 3-12 and both would be in the playoff today. Oxford is 3-4 and would be the No. 1 seed. A 2-6 Southaven would host No. 4 Starkville in the first round.

Ive been a long proponent of "Its time."
Agree, and I’m a fan of private schools, but like I said earlier, I’d like to see them play a full 7A sked, like the other 7As do, before I declare them the best.

That said, certainly comparable teams.

It would be interesting to see. The Big 3 would definitely be competitive in 6A or 7A. But I don’t think they’d win many champions.
