Just noticed Mike Trout is batting .190 here in the 12th games of the season. He just homered, but wow that's a pitiful average for the salary he commands.

Trout is actually pretty washed (compared to his former self), and has been for awhile. Also, he can’t stay on the field. Played 119 games or less in each of the past 4 seasons. WAR of < 2 in 4 of the last 5 seasons. OPS under .900 in each of the past 3 seasons.

That’s still pretty good, but not at all in line with his salary, especially considering that he keeps getting hurt. Unfortunately the way MLB salary is configured, you get paid astronomical dollars for a period way longer than you actually are capable if producing at that level. Teams have to throw down millions for 8-10 years when your payday is due, just to get you in your prime for 2-3 more years before you start to drop off.
