An update on my health issues. It all began last Summer (a year ago). I was stepping off my deck, onto the yard. I stubbed the toe of my shoe and fell face first off my deck, to the grass. About a foot. Landing hard, perfectly flat, on my chest. Nearly had the air knocked out of me. Nothing got hurt. Atleast I thought. It appears I had internal bleeding. Last September I was stacking a cord of wood that I got for the Winter. I got really light heading and short of breath. That started me on the journey to figure out what was wrong. Several different scans pointed to a tumor on my left lung. Some delay on my part on deciding to have an operation or not, led me to having the operation 3 weeks ago. Instead of a tumor Doc found sort of a sack full of brown sludge. Most likely remnants of my injury from last Summer. He also found scarring on my lung from asbestos exposure at some time in my life. Do I have cancer? Well no. Could I get cancer from the exposure? Well yes. I have no clue how or when I was exposed. Doc said that medical standards are, cancer monitoring happens in your lungs when you have cancer or smoked for atleast 20 years. I don't qualify. So I am cut loose with no follow ups. That good news, I guess. The question is...is the glass half full or half empty. I'll go with half full.

Your doctor could certainly have an x-ray issued to check the general condition of the lungs.
Although not cancer monitoring, could detect changes within the lungs.

Most excellent new ML!!!! I consider your glass to be so full, it's on the verge of spilling over.

You should be expecting that full-ride scholarship offer from PSU any day now. Watch your mailbox.

You must have had an organized post-traumatic hematoma from your description.

The great news is that you didn’t have cancer.

Asbestos in not everywhere so you may want to try to narrow potential exposure source since you may be eligible for free monitoring - it’s chronic and takes many years to manifest - some common sources would be - shipyards - military - automotive repair (brake dust) - boiler rooms - construction industry - they are much more careful now with worker exposures.

I might have that done locally. Especially if I start to feel a change to my breathing at any time in the future.

That's the thing, I never worked in any of those industries. Also, my Dad was in the Army for life. We moved all the time and lived all over the world. Hard to pin a possible location. I guess a possible concern could be the house we are living in now. We've lived here since 1996. It was built in 1974. Before the ban on asbestos. But completely remodeled in 1988. I would think any asbestos would have been dealt with in the remodel. I did live in another house from 1979 to 1996. It was built in the mid 70s. That might be a concern. Thanks for jarring my memory about this.
